8 Blue Streaks Earn All-OAC Men's Lacrosse Honors

| By:

John Carroll notched 2 First Teamers, 1 Second Teamer, and 5 Honorable Mentions

WESTERVILLE – Although John Carroll Men's Lacrosse didn't win the coveted Ohio Athletic Conference Championship that the program has been used to the last 8 seasons, there were some bright spots in this final season in the OAC before the transition to the NCAC.

After a season in which the Streaks went 9-8 and made it to the semifinals of the OAC Tournament, some individuals will be taking home significant honors from the All-OAC Awards.

On Thursday morning, 8 Blue Streaks were announced to All-OAC Teams. Josh Lombardo and Camden Uchic earned spots on the All-OAC First Team, Braden Zarek garnered an honor on the Second Team, while Aidan Dugan, Sean Hogan, Sean Keane, Hayden Mumbach and Nicholas Yemma all snagged All-OAC Honorable Mention.

Josh Lombardo, a junior midfielder, enjoyed a fruitful season. He made an impact on all facets of the game. After his effort this season, Lombardo advanced from second team All-OAC last season to first team this season. Lombardo chipped in 28 goals, good for third on the team, which included a 5-goal performance against Heidelberg in a 29-0 dominating showing. The Cleveland native added 25 ground balls and caused 6 turnovers on the year. The junior also excels in the classroom as a finance major.

Camden Uchic made his presence known on the defensive side of the field for the Streaks this season. The junior caused a team-high 26 turnovers, which also ranked fifth in the OAC. The Pittsburgh native was second for the Streaks with 51 ground balls and started nearly every game for the Streaks. Uchic is studying Computer Science in the classroom.

Braden Zarek played in just 13 games this season due to injury, but the sophomore deserves every bit of his Second Team placement. Despite missing four games, Zarek topped the Streaks in points and assists and ranked second in goals. Even more impressive, his 32 assists ranked second in the OAC. The Brother Rice alumnus was also honored three times this season as OAC Offensive Athlete of the Week and was named to the USILA Division III Team of the Week after notching 6 goals and 4 assists against Colorado College. Zarek is a Sports Leadership major off the lacrosse field.

Aidan Dugan ranked third for the Streaks with 12 caused turnovers this season and fourth in ground balls as a short stick defensive middie. The OAC Honorable Mention selection provided a sense of stability and leadership as one of two seniors on this Streaks squad. The St. Joe's alum is majoring in Early Childhood Education.

Sean Hogan did a little bit of everything this season for the Streaks. The fellow short stick defensive middie tallied 11 points on 5 goals and 6 assists, picked up 24 ground balls and caused 6 turnovers. The first year looks like a true building block for these Streaks as they enter the NCAC.

Sean Keane was a goal scoring machine for the Streaks this season. The junior was first on the team and fifth in the conference with 51 goals, 13 of which came in one contest against Heidelberg. Those 13 goals tied the all time Division 3 record for goals in a single game. The Canisius High School alum is majoring in finance.

Hayden Mumbach, the other half of the dynamic senior duo for these Streaks, finds his place on the All-OAC squad for the first time in his career. Mumbach finished the season tied for third for the Streaks with 12 caused turnovers and added 31 ground balls. Mumbach joined Keane as one of only two players to start every game this season, providing a sense of stability for John Carroll. Mumbach is on track to graduate with a Financial Planning and Wealth Management degree this May.

Nicholas Yemma was a vacuum this season for the Blue Streaks. The midfielder led the Streaks in ground balls by over 50 with 108 in total and stood second in the OAC, as well. Yemma also shined in the faceoff circle for the Streaks, winning 195 of his faceoffs. The junior caused 7 turnovers and added 9 points on offense. Yemma is also majoring in Financial Planning and Wealth Management.

Congratulations to all of the Blue Streak All-OAC honorees.
