Offense Goes Cold, as Men's Lacrosse Loses at ONU in OAC Semifinal

The Blue Streaks' run as OAC Champs has concluded

ADA – For the first time since 2015, the Ohio Athletic Conference will have a new men's lacrosse champion.

John Carroll Men's Lacrosse lost a defensive battle in the OAC Tournament Semifinal on Wednesday evening, falling to Ohio Northern University, 7-2.

The victory by the Polar Bears unseats the 8-time defending champions.

Josh Lombardo scored the game's first goal about halfway through the first quarter, assisted by Billy Paladino. Ohio Northern then managed to sneak ahead, 2-1, before Sean Keane fired home a man-up goal off a Braden Zarek assist with 1:39 left in the quarter.

That would be the final goal of the game for quite some time.

From there, the game turned into a gritty defensive battle, with shots at a premium. It was just the type of game that John Carroll needed to play to beat Ohio Northern. Devin Holder stood tall in cage as his defense shielded him from too many opportunities.

The score stood deadlocked at halftime, 2-2.

The Polar Bears broke the ice at last with 4:32 left in the third quarter, taking the lead for good. Ohio Northern took a 4-2 lead into the fourth quarter. While it did not feel insurmountable, John Carroll's offense could not author a response.

Ohio Northern put it out of reach in the fourth quarter with a trio of goals.

Ivan Roeder and Brody Forrest both finished with two caused turnovers. Richard Moran, Hayden Mumbach, and Camden Uchic tied for the team lead with 3 groundballs. Devin Holder made 7 saves.

The Blue Streaks mustered just 18 shots, 8 on goal. ONU won 8-of-10 faceoffs. JCU also converted just 17-of-28 clears. The Blue Streaks finish the year with a 9-8 record.
