Box Score It was tight early on between John Carroll and Roanoke Thursday in San Juan, but once the Maroons found their rhythm, the flood gates opened and out poured nine first half goals.
The final result was JCU's first loss of the 2019 campaign, a 16-4 setback that ended the team's stay in Puerto Rico with a 1-1 record.
"This was the most challenging team we have faced in five years," said John Carroll head coach
Rachel Dell. "Our defense actually played well against their very fast offense. We have some things to fix, but overall, we are happy with the effort and the fast adjustments the players made throughout the game."
Dell mentioned the play of
Shannon Oberst,
Brooke McQuinn,
Maddie Speer and
Elyssa Zablo, who did what they could to slow down on offensive attack that was averaging just under 20 goals per game heading into today's contest.
McQuinn scored the first of the game off an assist from
Colleen Grombala to make the score 1-1, but that would be the only first half tally.
McQuinn,
Alexis Guage and
Alex Heishman scored in the second half for the Blue Streaks, who dropped to 3-1 on the year. Roanoke improved to 4-1 with the victory.
The Blue Streaks next game will be stateside and at home, as John Carroll hosts Oberlin on Wednesday, March 13, at 4:00 p.m.
