Nine Seniors Say Goodbye To Johnson Natatorium With Emphatic Victory

The conundrum of senior day is that a team says good-bye to the home facility with so much swimming and diving left to do.

With the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships still 26 days away, the nine John Carroll seniors made their final competitive swims at the William H. Johnson Natatorium and helped lead their team to a 144-92 victory over league and crosstown rival Baldwin Wallace.

Carly Adams, Amanda Alikhani, Emma Connell, Anne Crowley, Megan Hawk, Alexandra Iosue, Allison McGreer, Sam Needham and Teresa Prinster were all honored before the meet, and many of these seniors figured into the scoring.

In the opening race, Crowley joined Felice Ferrante, Carmen Ferrante, and Hope Scherger to win the 400 Medley Relay in 4:12.35.

Iosue carved out two second place finishes in the 1000 and 500 Free. Needham finished fourth in the 1000 (11:58.40) while McGreer was fourth in the 500 Free (6:02.38).

In the 50 Free, Hawk (2nd, 26.62) and Gwyn Ledrick (1st, 25.70) put together a solid 1-2 punch. Hawk added a second place finish in the 100 Free as well (58.26), which was won by JCU's Emily Yoos (57.62).

Connell and Maddie Dolce were formidable in the grueling 400 IM. Dolce finished first in 4:58.40 while Connell had a spirited second place finish, rallying in the latter half of the race to out-touch Sarah Krupp of BW (5:11.12 to 5:11.57).

In the 200 Back, Dolce (2:21.31), Connell (2:27.29) and Alikhani (2:28.95) put together a 2-3-4 finish.

Besides the seniors, other notable performances included a come-from-behind win by Carmen Ferrante in the 200 Free, where she rallied late to out-touch Erika Nockengost of Baldwin Wallace by .05 of a second (2:01.75 to 2:01.80). Ashley Creasap swept 1- and 3-meter diving for the second consecutive day, and the trio of Samantha Nagy (2:38.51), Monica Rzepka (2:39.20) and Chloe Ruggiero (2:41.88) swept the top three places in the 200 Breast.
