Women's Swimming & Diving Takes Part in Magnus Cup

Adamzcyk's school record highlighted the weekend for JCU

CLEVELAND – It was a busy weekend for John Carroll Women's Swimming & Diving, but thankfully the Blue Streaks didn't need to travel far.

John Carroll spent three days at the Magnus Cup at Cleveland State University, competing against Division I competitors.

In a packed field, the Blue Streaks finished ninth of nine teams with 107 team points, with Head Coach Mark de Swardt, a CSU star swimmer once upon a time, returning to his alma mater.

Gabrielle Adamzcyk flew through the water in the 200 Butterly. The sophomore soared for a time of 2:09.04 in the event, setting a school record in the process. Her outstanding performance was one of the top moments of the weekend.

The Blue Streaks scored 12 points in the 200 Free Relay with a 19th place finish. Bree Shirkey, Mairin Dalziel, Alyssa Galley, and Taylor Hudson combined for a time of 1:38.12. JCU also tabbed 19th in the 200 Medley Relay. Audrey Sevald, Olivia Goodmann, Gabrielle Adamczyk, and Mairin Dalziel carded a time of 1:47.23. 

Later on, JCU strolled for a 14th place mark of 7:55.15 in the 800 Free Relay. Dalziel, Shirkey, Ella Muzychak, and JJ Gowetski worked well together. Dalziel, Gowetski, Shirkey, and Hudson combined for 17th in the 400 Free Relay, combining for a time of 3:36.66.

Goodman showcased her skills in the 400 IM. The senior star tallied a time of 4:42.26, though was just eked out by Marina Sneyd with a time of 4:42.01. Goodman also did good work in the 200 Breaststroke with a 26th place time of 2:27.36.

Sevald scored nice points in the 100 Backstroke B final. The sophomore cooked up a time of 57.60, good for 19th overall. The Akron native also did good work in the 200 Back B final, gearing up a time of 2:08.90 for 18th.

Next Up
The Blue Streaks have some time off to recuperate, returning to action on December 13 at Bowling Green for duals vs. the Falcons and the University of Findlay.
