The Blue Streaks' tennis teams head to Florida for spring break.
Faced with an upcoming busy week the John Carroll University men's and women's tennis teams looked to start the spring off strong prior to taking off for spring break in Florida.
The Blue Streaks squared off against the College of Wooster on Friday night in the Paramount Tennis Club in Medina. The women's team battled hard but fell 5-4 while the men dropped its match 6-3.
Needing to win four of the six singles points to take the match the Blue and Gold were unsuccessful on the women's side.
Tracy Gibson cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 4 singles while
Ivana Didovic took the 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5. Also winning in singles for JCU was
Katherine Devine. After dropping the first set Devine stormed back for the 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 win.
Gibson and
Anna Stein picked up JCU's fourth point on the women's side winning at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
The men fared well at double winning at first doubles when
Kyle Mollison and
Sean Graham knocked off Wooster's Willy Nelson and Milo Saurman 8-5.
Nick Siciliano and
Jad Abdul-Aal picked up the win at No. 2 singles 8-6.
Abdul-Aal continued his strong freshman season in singles play winning at No. 1 6-3, 6-1.
The John Carroll University tennis teams square off against St. John's (Minn.) University in Tampa, Fla. on Sunday.
