Men's Tennis Sneaks by Grove City in Fall Opener

The Blue Streaks debuted four new names in the lineup

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The fall season is a tuneup for the spring in collegiate tennis, and a particularly important one for John Carroll.

The Blue Streaks have a new head coach in Torrey McNeal plus a host of fresh faces.

With a strikingly different lineup, JCU Men's Tennis managed to sneak by Grove City College on Saturday on the road, 4-3.

After Grove City won the team doubles point, JCU dominated the top of the singles lineup. The Blue Streaks won the #1-4 spots in singles to take the cake.

Anthony Markello (#2) and Phillip Gorun (#3) showed no rust in leading the way. But it was a bruising 6-3, 6-1 win for newcomer Jean Davin atop the lineup that gave hope for the year ahead. Nathan Tam also looked strong at #4, 6-1, 6-4. The Blue Streaks are set to travel to Wooster next weeked.
