Looking to start off strong, the John Carroll men's tennis team fell 9-0 to host Allegheny College in the Blue Streaks' season-opener on Tuesday afternoon in Meadville, Pa.
The Gators cruised to a sweep of the doubles points.
Jad Abdul-Aal and
Sean Graham fell 8-2 to Patrick Cole and Tyler Triolo at the No. 1 spot.
Hunter Pellegrini and
Brett Peskin also fell 8-2 to Daniel Conroy and Thomas Manning at the No. 3 spot while
Nick Siciliano and
Eric Grimaldi were shutout at the No. 2 spot by Sam Stephenson and Samarth Gopa.
Siciliano battled hard at No. 2 singles and was the only Blue Streak to extend his match to three sets. Siciliano fell 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 to Alexander Hurtuk.
Pellegrini nearly pulled out the second set against Manning at No. 5 singles but lost 6-2, 6-4. Abdul-Aal lost 6-1, 6-1 to Cole at the No. 1 position.
Graham competed at the No. 3 singles spot and lost to Triolo 6-0, 6-2. Grimaldi lost a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Charlie Murphy in the fourth-spot and Peskin was blanked by Conroy at No. 6.
The men's tennis team will look to get on track against Franciscan University at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
