Steward Picks Up 50th Career Singles Win, But Streaks Fall To Wooster

James Steward earned his 50th career singles victory with a straight set win against Wooster Tuesday

Box Score

Senior James Steward reached a milestone by winning his 50th career singles match, but it would be just one of three John Carroll wins on the day as the Blue Streaks fell to Wooster, 6-3, in a non-conference match Tuesday in Wooster, Ohio.

The trouble started for JCU when it lost all three doubles matches to fall into a 3-0 hole. Although the Streaks split the six singles matches, it would not be enough to recover from the early deficit.

Steward picked up his 50th singles victory as a Blue Streaks with a 6-6 6-3 decision over Pat Grab at #1 singles. Steward is now 50-11 in his career as a singles player, with 47 of those wins achieved playing in the #1 spot of the line-up.

Also winning for the Blue Streaks were Matt Tomayko at #3 singles and Michael Finissi at #4 singles.

With the loss, John Carroll falls to 6-8 on the season, while Wooster improves to 11-2.
