The Blue Streaks have made the grade for four straight years

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the fourth straight year, John Carroll Volleyball is among the nation's best in the classroom.

On Thursday, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its annual Team Academic Award list, and the Blue Streaks proudly made the grade.

This marks the 10th time in the history of the award that JCU Volleyball won the honor from the AVCA.

In the fall, the Blue Streaks achieved a 3.56 team GPA. In the spring, the Blue Streaks tallied a 3.52 team GPA.

Per the AVCA, a total of 1,432 collegiate and high school volleyball teams earned the 2026 AVCA Team Academic Award by maintaining a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale).

Head Coach Michele Benoit has built teams that compete in the classroom as well as the court. Her Blue Streaks have achieved the honor seven times in her tenure (2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2019, 2018, and 2017). Gretchen Weitbrecht also guided JCU to three AVCA team honors in 1997, 1996, and 1995.

Individually, Kendra Dziubinski, Tess Humphrey, Olivia Mogyordy, and Mary Kate Sheehan represented the Blue Streaks as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District picks and on the North Coast Athletic Conference Dr. Gordon Collins Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for 2025-26. Additionally, Allie Drlik, Kallan Hrics, Haley Nicholson, Mary Kate Sheehan, and Hailey Williams made the Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
