Women's Basketball Dominates Kenyon to Earn 100th Career Win for Beth Andrews

The milestone provided one more reason to celebrate on the Blue Streaks' Alumni Day

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Before, during and after the game today, there was plenty of reason to celebrate for the Blue Streaks.

On Alumni Day – honoring the late Sue Zidanic '95 and All-American turned teacher Nicole Heffington '22 – John Carroll Women's Basketball started strong and never looked back in a fifth straight North Coast Athletic Conference victory.

The triumph marked the 100th career coaching win for Head Coach Beth Andrews '15. During her time as the leader of the program, the Blue Streaks have been a consistent contender while excelling off the court, too.

Without a doubt, it was a great day to be a Blue Streak.

John Carroll scored first and never trailed in the ballgame. Ava Ryncarz and Graci Semptimphelter both got rolling early in the game after being honored before tipoff for breaking the single-game JCU 3-point record earlier this season.

Nicci Finazzo nailed a 3-pointer and Carly Perusek notched a traditional 3-point play down the stretch. JCU enjoyed a clear 26-14 lead after the first quarter.

A steady dose of Ryncarz, Semptimphelter, and Finazzo continued to wear down the Owls. Reese Rhodehamel got in on the fun, too. The Blue Streaks really got rolling late in the first half, with smooth passing on offense and crisp defense. John Carroll stood in full control, 43-26.

Ryncarz and Perusek guided the offense to continued success to start the third quarter, stretching the lead to over 20 points. Katie Puletti hit a nice triple midway through the period to keep it out of reach. A 6-point burst by Kaylie McKenney and a pair of late free throws by Carmen Heuker set the margin at 65-36 at the end of the third quarter.

The Blue Streaks' bench got plenty of playing time in the fourth quarter. John Carroll won handily in the end in a 72-50 final decision.

Ryncarz led all players with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Finazzo (12 points) and Perusek (11) both hit double digits as well.

Next Up
The Blue Streaks will hit the road for a nearby road trip on Wednesday, heading to the College of Wooster (10-11, 2-8 NCAC) for a 6 pm showdown.
