Women’s Track & Field Sits In Second Place After Day One Of 2025 OAC Outdoor Championships

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The day has finally arrived for the John Carroll Women's Track & Field program as championship racing kicks off. 

The Blue Streaks headed down to Wilmington, Ohio for the 2025 OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Wilmington College. 

After day one, the women currently are in second place with a total score of 61.25 points. The Polar Bears of Ohio Northern currently lead the championship meet with a score of 90 points. In third place, the Purple Raiders of Mount Union have a score of 54.25 points. 

Day One Full Results

To get the day started in the field events, first year Abigail Whitehead would score in the women's pole vault, placing eighth overall with a mark of 3.03 meters. 

The duo of Lily Shahan (36.17 meters) and Leah Fritsch (35.82 meters) would place second and third overall in the women's javelin throw to contribute heavily for the team, earning All-OAC honors in the event. 

First year Dakota Houston would be the first OAC Champion crowned in the women's long jump for the Blue Streaks as she would earn her second conference title in the event. Her mark of 5.55 meters would help her secure All-OAC honors as well. 

In the women's high jump, senior Emmy Bryan would earn All-OAC honors as she would place third overall with a mark of 1.59 meters. This is her second All-OAC honor in the event this track & field season. 

Moving on to the track events, first year Sandra King would get things started for the Blue Streaks as she would advance to the final in the women's 400 meter dash, placing seventh overall with a time of 58.31 seconds. 

Both Dakota Houston (12.16 seconds) and Mia Scott (12.83 seconds) would advance to the final in the women's 100 meter dash, placing first and eighth overall in the prelims. 

In exciting fashion, senior Annie Higgins would pick up her first OAC title in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 11:09.00. She is currently ranked in the top 50 in Division III with that time. Sydney Wingler would also score for the Blue Streaks as she would place eighth overall with a time of 12:22.16. 

Two Blue Streak sprinters would advance to the final in the 200 meter dash as Dakota Houston (25.05 seconds) and Paige Munchick (25.85 seconds) would place second and fifth overall in the prelims. 

The women's 10000 meter run was stellar as first year Anne Rea would lead for the Blue Streaks, securing All-OAC honors with a time of 38:38.87 to place second overall. Sarah Weldon (39:43.58) and Anastasia Bakuhn (39:58.73) would place sixth and eighth respectively to help contribute for the team. 

Lastly, the women's 4x800 meter relay of Alyssa Vis, Ellie Kitsmiller, Sam Goodnough, and Emmaline Hannan would achieve All-OAC honors with a total time of 9:35.23, placing second overall. 

The women will now look to keep the momentum going heading into day two as they look to make a breakthrough in those next events on Friday. The field events will kick off the day at 11:00 AM and the track events will begin at 3:00 PM.
