Women’s Track & Field Performs At Akron And Baldwin Wallace In Last Chance Meet Competition

BEREA & AKRON, Ohio – The John Carroll Women's Track & Field program traveled to both the University of Akron and Baldwin Wallace for a couple of last chance meets. 

A small contingent of the throwers traveled to the Northeast Ohio Open hosted by the University of Akron on Thursday, May 8th, while most of the team traveled to the Harrison Dillard Twilight at Baldwin Wallace. 

The Blue Streaks were bound for some high performances with just the national championships being in a couple of weeks.

Two Blue Streak athletes would make appearances in the women's javelin throw at the Northeast Ohio Open as Leah Fritsch (35.06 meters) and Lily Shahan (31.42 meters) would place second and third overall in the event. 

Now looking at some of the performances from the Harrison Dillard Twilight hosted by Baldwin Wallace University, the tone was set from first year Dakota Houston

She would finish first overall in the women's 100 meter dash prelim, breaking the previous school record of 11.89 seconds to finish with a time of 11.64 seconds. This would be Houston's third school record broken this outdoor season as she is now ranked fifth in NCAA Division III with that time. 

Dakota continues to have an impressive first year for the Blue Streaks. 

Going into the field events, senior Olivia Stefka would compete in the women's triple jump and place ninth overall with a mark of 9.90 meters. 

Emmy Bryan would continue her remarkable performances in the women's high jump as she would place fifth overall with a mark of 1.59 meters. 

In the women's 800 meter run, senior Ellie Kitsmiller would lead the team, finishing 18th overall with a time of 2:20.07, followed by her teammates Morgan Dobos (2:25.12) and Cassie Klein (2:26.67) finishing 30th and 33rd overall. 

The women's 4x100 meter relay of Mia Scott, Sandra King, Paige Munchick, and Dakota Houston would finish fourth overall with a time of 46.81 seconds. 

Alexis Berwald would make an appearance in the women's 400 meter dash and place 18th overall with a time of 1:04.28. 

Kaleigh McNamara ran in the women's 200 meter dash and would place 19th overall with a time of 26.61 seconds. 

Another relay that would compete was the women's 4x400 meter relay. The team consisted of Dakota houston, Paige Munchick, Kaleigh McNamara, and Sandra King would place third overall with a time of 3:51.94. 

Four personal bests were recorded in the women's 1500 meter run. Alyssa Vis (4:33.53), Abby Schroff (4:34.15), Annie Higgins (4:39.59), and Meah Prutzman (4:44.06) would all place in the top 15 for the Blue Streaks. Both Vis and Schoff continue to get nearer towards a potential national championship qualification. 

Last, but not least, in the women's 5000 meter run, senior Anastasia Bakuhn would run to a new personal best of 18:25.14 to place 17th overall in her last race as a Blue Streak. 

The Blue Streaks will be back for a couple of more last chance meets on the schedule as they will travel to Mount Union and Augustana for the Midwest Twilight Final Qualifier on Wednesday to Thursday, May 14th-15th as they try to qualify several athletes to the national championships at the end of the month.
