Women’s Track & Field Travels To Georgia Tech And Baldwin Wallace For Split Squad Competition On Easter Weekend

ATLANTA, Georgia & BEREA, Ohio – The John Carroll Women's Track & Field program took another step in the right direction.

A small contingent of the sprinters competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia and most of the team attended the Sparky Adams Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio.

The women finished with a team score of 67 points, placing fifth overall as a team at the Sparky Adams Invite. Cleveland State took home the victory with a total score of 148 points. 

At the Georgia Tech Invite, competition started on Friday for the Blue Streaks as the duo of Dakota Houston and Mia Scott made appearances in the women's 100 meter dash. Houston would run 12.03 seconds placing 22nd overall, while Scott placed 64th overall with a time of 12.43 seconds. 

Competition would continue on Saturday as the women's 4x100 meter relay would make a return to the track after posting a school record last week at Mount Union. The team of Mia Scott, Sandra King, Paige Munchick, and Dakota Houston would place 11th overall with a time of 46.76 seconds, tying their school record from last week. 

In the women's 400 meter dash, King (57.69 seconds) and Munchick (59.36 seconds) would return as they would place 32nd and 54th individually in the event. Paige would also record a new personal best in the women's 200 meter dash running 25.66 seconds for the Blue Streaks. 

Moving onto the field events at Sparky Adams, in the women's discus throw junior Breanna Berwald would place 10th overall with a mark of 35.02 meters. She would also record a new personal best in the women's hammer throw, placing 12th overall with a mark of 40.78 meters. 

Senior Cara Jewett would also record a new personal best in the women's hammer throw, placing eighth overall with a mark of 46.16 meters.

In the women's long jump, senior Massey Andrykovitch (5.10 meters) and first year Ella Gill (4.93 meters) would place fifth and ninth overall respectively. 

The track events would follow as the women's 1500 meter run would be the first event for the Blue Streaks. 
First year Meah Prutzman would be the first finisher for the squad as she would place fifth overall with a time of 4:52.39, followed by Kylie Bennington (5:00.16) and Sydney Wingler (5:00.94) placing ninth and 10th overall. Maddie Harrington would make his outdoor debut for the women as she would place 15th with a time of 5:09.92. 

The women's 800 meter run was an exciting one to watch as senior Annie Higgins would place third overall with a time of 2:16.60, followed by juniors Alyssa Vis (2:18.01) and Abby Schroff (2:18.41) placing sixth and seventh overall. Junior Kelsey Sheridan wouldn't be far behind as she would run 2:21.16 with senior Emmaline Hannan finishing ninth, clocking in at 2:21.86. These were all personal bests recorded for the Blue Streaks. 

In the women's 200 meter dash, first year Alexis Berwald would run to a new personal best, placing 19th overall with a time of 27.57 seconds. 

In the last event of the day for the Blue Streaks, the duo of Cassie Klein (19:09.12) and Sarah Weldon (19:12.63) placed seventh and eighth overall in the women's 5000 meter run. 

The women will return to competition next Thursday, April 24th as they will compete at the Walsh Invitational hosted by the University of Mount Union at Kehres Stadium. Meet information will be posted next week.
