Men’s Track & Field Opens Up Outdoor Season At Cedarville University

Men's Track & Field Post New Marks At Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open To Begin 2025 Outdoor Season
CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Blue Streaks are back competing; this time outdoors as they traveled to Cedarville University for the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open.

This is the first time since the OAC Indoor Championships that a large contingent of the athletes competed as they would kick off the outdoor season this weekend.

The men would place eighth overall out of 22 teams at the meet as they would score a total of 35 points. Ashland University would take home the victory, scoring a total of 143.50 points. 

Leading off for the men, in the field events, senior Matthew Russo would place seventh overall in the men's discus throw with a mark of 46.54 meters. 

Sophomore Moose Frombach would post new personal bests in the discus throw (38.42 meters) and the hammer throw (39.32 meters) as well. 

In the men's javelin throw, first year Ben Herczog would place eighth overall with a mark of 46.42 meters, competing in the event for the first time in his career. 

Shifting to the running events, in the men's 4x100 meter relay, the team of Victor Ononogbo, Mick Doyle, Dustin Horner, and Tyler Gast would place third overall with a time of 41.78 seconds. 

Gast would later return for the 400 meter dash as he would earn a second place finish with a time of 48.64 seconds. 

In the men's 100 meter dash, the duo of Ethan Show (10.89 seconds) and Ryan Anderson (10.99 seconds) would place 22nd and 31st overall for the Blue Streaks. 

The men's 400 meter hurdles was well-represented as Victor Ononogbo would lead the way for the Blue Streaks, clocking in at 55.72 seconds, placing second overall. Following not too far behind were Tony Tirado (56.01 seconds) and Mick Doyle (58.33 seconds) as they would place in the top 10. 

Reece Bacak, the first year out of Hudson, Ohio, would earn a new personal best in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.18 seconds. 

Solid debuts were posted this afternoon as the Blue Streaks would start off on a high note going into the 2025 outdoor season. 

Next up for the men will be the Wooster Invitational next Friday to Saturday, April 4th-5th at the College of Wooster. Meet information will be posted next week.
