Basheer Alramahi Becomes The Fourth Student-Athlete At JCU To Win The CSC Academic All-America® Team Member Of The Year Award
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – John Carroll University Men's Track & Field student-athlete Basheer Alramahi has been chosen as the 2024-2025 CSC Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Men's Division III Track & Field/Cross Country, as selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).

Alramahi now becomes the fourth student-athlete in JCU history to be named the CSC Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year. Mackenzie Griffin became the first student-athlete to win the award for Division III Softball in 2013. Brian Potocnik was the second JCU awardee for Division III Men's Soccer in 2014. Lastly, the third member to win the honor was Lauren O'Malley for Division III Women's Tennis in 2019.

As a rising senior, Basheer is a biology major with a chemistry minor, accumulating a 4.00 grade point average.

This past season was his best campaign as a Blue Streak. Some of his greatest accomplishments were collecting three All-American honors in both the indoor and outdoor 400 meter dash, as well as the 4x400 meter relay during the outdoor season. Notably, Alramahi broke the Division III National Record in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:02.64.

The Westlake native earned three Ohio Athletic Conference crowns at the conference championship meets, which led to him securing the 2025 USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Track Athlete of the Year award.

Throughout the 2024-25 campaign, Basheer became a four-time OAC Track Athlete of the Week winner and a four-time USTFCCCA Great Lakes All-Region performer. He was picked as the OAC Scholar Athlete of the Month for January.

This past March, Alramahi became the second student-athlete ever at JCU to win the NCAA ELITE 90 Award. The ELITE 90 is presented to a student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average, who participates at their finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships in all divisions.

"This means so much to me personally," emphasized Alramahi. "I think it's a great example of the culmination of three years of hard work for me. I spend a lot of time outside of track studying. Sometimes people crack jokes on the team about how much I do it, but I think it is necessary for me to do my best both on the track and in the classroom. I am super happy to be recognized for this."

Basheer mentions how much his family has been a big inspiration to him during his career and how he carries that on during his career at John Carroll.

"My family has been my biggest source of inspiration," said Alramahi. "My parents gave me an example of what I should strive to be. They immigrated here from overseas and they work super hard to give me the life I have today. Being able to do just as much for them and hopefully more is a great motivator for me."

This summer, Basheer is currently working at the Cleveland Clinic as an intern and will continue his education in medical school. He will be attending LECOM University in Erie, Pennsylvania after graduating from John Carroll. Alramahi has aspirations of becoming an emergency physician.

Coach Daniel Tutskey, Director of Cross Country/Track & Field at John Carroll University talks about the importance of the award for the rising senior.

"This is an unbelievable accomplishment and honor for Basheer," said Tutskey. "Basheer has put our program on the map with his athletic ability and has now done it off the track with this honor and the Elite 90 award he earned this past indoor season. It's a testament to his work ethic and dedication to his academics."

Tutskey also talks about how much the award means for not only the cross country/track & field program, but for the University as a whole.

"He is truly an elite student-athlete," Tutskey mentions. "As a program, we strive to be elite in sport and in the classroom. To be the first in program history and fourth John Carroll student-athlete speaks to his elite academics amongst his peers across Division III. You don't get to coach athletes like Basheer often. You learn to cherish the times you have in such a short amount of time. You don't take a second of it for granted. You enjoy the ride because student-athletes like him are special."

After being selected as the CSC Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division III Men's Cross Country/Track & Field, Alramahi will now advance to the ballot for the CSC Overall Academic All-America® of the Year, where one individual is selected as the top student-athlete across all sports in each NCAA and NAIA division. A total of four recipients will be announced on Wednesday, July 30th at Noon (ET).
