Three Blue Streak Track & Field Athletes Earn CSC Academic All-District® From 2024-2025 Season
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The men's track & field program continues to excel not only on the track, but in the classroom as well.

After coming off of a 15th place finish for the 2024-2025 Al Carius Program of the Year announced by the USTFCCCA for their efforts at the national championships, the team have collected a total of three honorees that earned Academic All-District® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country, selected by the College Sports Communicators.

These athletes include Basheer Alramahi, Tyler Gast, and Jimmy Kartsonas that have earned the academic award for the program this year.

The CSC Academic All-District® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their efforts in their sport and in the classroom. For cross country/track & field, the CSC recognizes these athletes in four separate divisions including NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, as well as the NAIA.

Basheer Alramahi would post another historic year for the Blue Streaks in his third year campaign. To recap his indoor season, the junior would break the NCAA Division III national record in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:02.64 at the 2025 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. This would lead him to securing an NCAA Runner Up finish in the 400 meter dash at the indoor championships held in Rochester, New York.

The momentum carried into the outdoor season as he would contribute to the 4x400 meter relay to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships and finish seventh overall to earn All-American honors. Alramahi would also make his third consecutive appearance in the 400 meter dash, where he placed third overall with a time of 46.80 seconds.

The junior out of Westlake, Ohio would collect a total of four All-OAC and All-Region performances, earned three OAC championships, and was named the 2025 USTFCCCA Indoor Track Athlete of the Year for the Great Lakes Region.

Looking at his academic accomplishments from this year, Basheer would become an NCAA Elite 90 Award Honoree and be named the OAC Scholar Athlete of the Month in January for indoor and be named to the 2025 Spring Academic All-OAC list.

Tyler Gast is coming off of a tremendous season for John Carroll as he would pick up his third outdoor All-American honor in the 4x400 meter relay. This is now Gast's fifth overall All-American finish for the Blue Streaks. He became a three-time All-OAC performer and earned an OAC championship in the relay as well during indoor.

The senior out of Olmsted Falls would collect All-Region honors for the 4x400 meter relay, contributing to securing the top time in the Great Lakes Region with a time of 3:10.60.

Gast was also named to the 2025 Spring Academic All-OAC list.

Lastly, graduate student Jimmy Kartsonas joins CSC Academic All-District® list in his final year for the Blue Streaks.

During the indoor track & field season, Kartsonas would qualify to his first NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship in the 60 meter hurdles, breaking the school record with a time of 8.07 seconds. He would break the school record twice throughout the season. This led to him securing All-Region honors in the event.

Another event Kartsonas excelled in this year was the triple jump as he would earn a mark of 14.26 meters, nearly breaking the school record. He would collect his second All-Region achievement during indoor.

Jimmy also achieved OAC Athlete of the Week the week of February 24th for his efforts at the Greater Cleveland Colleges Invite hosted by Case Western Reserve University.

The Academic All-District® honorees will advance to the CSC All-America® ballot. The first, second, and third-team Academic All-American selections will be announced on Wednesday, July 16th.
