It was a wild weekend for the junior out of Westlake, Ohio as he walked away from this year's NCAA Indoor Championship meet feeling proud more than ever as he was also named the NCAA Elite 90 award winner for the 2024-2025 indoor track & field season.

For Dakota Houston, it was a special weekend to be a part of. To come into the meet ranked 16th in the country and to earn All-American honors in the process is already an impressive feat.

Looking at the team totals, on the men's side, the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse would accomplish the national title with a score of 84 points, followed by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, scoring 39 points. To round up the podium spots, it was Rowan University (32 points) and Lynchburg University (29 points).

On the women's side, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) would win the team title with a score of 49 points, followed by Washington University of St. Louis placed second, scoring a total of 45.5 points. Rounding up the third and fourth place podium finishes were the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse (37 points) and Loras University (32 points).

Coach Daniel Tutskey, Director of Cross Country/Track & Field at John Carroll University was very pleased with Basheer and Dakota's performances today and ultimately, was very happy with the way they approached the national meet this year.

"I am incredibly proud of the weekend Basheer and Dakota had and everything they accomplished this year," emphasized Tutskey. "The support they have from their families and teammates make them special people. Whether it's your first national championship meet or 5th, they both come with different expectations and different types of pressure. Dakota and Basheer made all of us proud in how they prepared and competed at the highest level."

Tutskey also talks about the effort they both displayed in becoming an All-American and how they prepared in order to achieve their goals.

"It's extremely difficult to achieve All-American status and to also do so while achieving personal bests in the process is even more rare," said Tutskey. "They're both process oriented and believe in the system that we have placed for not just them, but for the whole team."

It was another historic season for the Blue Streaks as they will now transition to the outdoor season with excitement, poise, and will now look to build upon their indoor success.

The first meet of the outdoor season will take place at Cedarville University for the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open on Saturday, March 29th, depending on weather.
