Men’s Track & Field Sits In Third Place After Day One Of OAC Indoor Championships

Basheer Alramahi Sets A New DIII National Record In The 500 Meter Dash (1:02.64) To Highlight Day One Of OAC Championships
ADA, OH – Championship competition is now upon us as the Blue Streaks traveled to Ohio Northern University for the 2025 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the ONU Sports Center. 

The energy was brought as the men came away with some very impressive performances, new personal bests, and All-OAC finishes to put themselves in the top three of the meet. 

After day one, the Blue Streaks currently sit in third place with a point total of 39 points. The Purple Raiders of Mount Union lead the meet with a score of 65 points, followed by the Ohio Northern Polar Bears with a score of 47.50 points. 

Day One Full Results

In the field events, where it all began, first year Julius Kimbrough came away with a fourth place finish in the men's long jump with a new personal best of 6.88 meters, representing JCU in the finals. This would be Kimbrough's second indoor meet of the season. 

The running events would happen a few hours later as junior Basheer Alramahi provided a huge spark for the Blue Streaks in the 500 meter dash. Alramahi would be your OAC Champion in the event, breaking not only the school and conference records, but he would also come away with a new national record of 1:02.64. The previous record of 1:02.74 was held by Ben Scheetz of Amherst College in 2011. Junior Max Grillo would contribute in the event, finishing sixth overall with a time of 1:07.26. 

Senior Tyler Gast would provide a breakthrough as he would finish fourth overall in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.87 seconds to contribute to the point total. 

Two athletes secured new personal bests in the 60 meter dash prelims including Ethan Show (7.06 seconds) and Matteo Taillet (7.11 seconds). Even though they would just miss out on finals, these two provided another opportunity for other athletes to step up. 

That's when senior Dominic Delmoro would earn a second place finish in the men's 5000 meter run, finishing with a time of 14:59.88 to secure All-OAC honors in the event. Senior Ryan Champa would also add to the point total for the Blue Streaks finishing sixth place overall with a time of 15:24.14. 

To conclude day one of the OAC Indoor Championships, the men's distance medley relay of Michael Hvizdos, Victor Ononogbo, Grant Preto, and Nate Julien would place fourth overall in the event with a time of 10:27.59 to score five points for the men. 

The men will look to rebound and build off of those solid efforts going into day two as action will begin with the field events starting at 10:00 AM and the running events going off at 2:30 PM.
