Men’s Track & Field Performs At Greater Cleveland Colleges Invite Hosted By Case Western

Fifth-Year Senior Jimmy Kartsonas Breaks His Own 60 Meter Hurdles School Record For The Second Time This Season (8.07 Seconds)
CLEVELAND – With just one week away from the OAC Indoor Championships, the Blue Streaks set the tone and brought the energy this past Friday. 

The team traveled just 10 minutes away to Case Western Reserve University for the 2025 Ed Finnigan Greater Cleveland Colleges Invite at the Veale Convocation, Recreation, and Fitness Center. 

A large group of the men made the trip to place conference marks and fulfill an opportunity as the indoor season is slowly wrapping up.

To get the day started, in the field events, the men's long jump showed up as first year Julius Kimbrough led the way as he placed third overall with a mark of 6.84 meters, followed by junior Daylen Glaze (6.42 meters) and AJ Haddox (5.60 meters) placing fifth and ninth. 

In the men's weight throw, sophomore Moose Frombach would place 10th overall with a mark of 13.75 meters. First year Troy Buehner would also place himself in the top 10 in the shot put, earning a mark of 12.60 meters placing seventh overall. 

The men's high jump was well-represented as first year Julius Kimbrough would come back and place second overall and earn a new personal best of 1.91 meters. First year Jordon Rodman would follow right behind placing third with a mark of 1.86 meters. 

Senior Dominic Delmoro would kick off the running events for JCU as he would place first overall in the men's 5000 meter run, clocking in at 15:26.03 placing first overall. 

In the men's mile, senior Jett Wieber would place himself in the top three, running 4:26.51 to place third overall. 

A spark from the men would come around as fifth-year senior Jimmy Kartsonas would break his own school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.07 seconds, winning the event for the Blue Streaks. This time now puts him at 13th in the country and his second time shattering the school record this season. 

Sophomore Tony Tirado would continue to get better each week as he would place third overall with a time of 51.65 seconds in the 400 meter dash. 

Ethan Show would represent the Blue Streaks in the 60 meter dash final, placing fourth overall with a time of 7.12 seconds. 
In his second race back for JCU, junior Max Grillo would continue to impress as he would place first overall in the men's 800 meter run, clocking in at 1:57.06. 

The men's 1000 meter run was led by junior Ian Paul, who made his season debut for the Blue Streaks coming back from injury as he would place second overall with a time of 2:30.95. Mike Hvizdos (2:31.41), Sam Su (2:33.18), and Grant Preto (2:36.10) would follow as they would round up the top five. 

To conclude the meet, first year Charlie Payne would bounce back and secure a new personal best in the men's 3000 meter run and win the event with a time of 8:45.53. Another first year Matthew Dienes would earn a new personal best, running 8:56.48 in the race. The 3000 meter run was represented by first-years that have really made an impact so far this season. 

Championship racing will begin next week as the Blue Streaks will make the trip to Ada, Ohio for the 2025 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University on Friday-Saturday, February 28th-March 1st. The men will look to make history as this will be their last indoor conference meet before heading into the NCAC in the Fall of 2025.
