Women’s Track & Field Performs In Another Split Squad Weekend

Women's Track & Field Competes At BW, GVSU, And All-Ohio In Split Squad Weekend
BEREA, ALLENDALE, & WESTERVILLE – The Blue Streaks took on another split squad meet weekend for the second straight time this season competing at the BW Mid-February Meet, the GVSU Big Meet, and the DIII All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein. 

With just two weeks away from the conference championships, the women competed to secure top marks in a series of meets throughout the weekend.

To get the weekend started, the Blue Streaks traveled to Berea, Ohio for the BW Mid-February Meet at Baldwin Wallace University. 

In the field events, junior Sarah Hart would earn a new personal best in the shot put with a mark of 11.60 meters to place first overall. 

Junior Ella Zambruno would win the long jump with a mark of 4.91 meters, a new personal best that would help her earn the victory. 

The women's weight throw was well-represented as senior Cara Jewett would lead the way for the team as she would place first overall with a mark of 15.09 meters, followed by Sarah Hart (14.38 meters) and Breanna Berwald (13.38 meters) who placed second and sixth. 

The running events would follow shortly after as senior Anastasia Bakuhn would earn a new personal best in the mile with a time of 5:29.81. First year Madeline Harrington ran 5:43.32 to finish fifth overall in the race. 

In the women's 500 meter dash, first year Natalie Chryst would win the event with a time of 1:24.34, followed by junior Kaleigh McNamara placing second with a time of 1:25.61. 

The top three were all Blue Streaks in the women's 800 meter run as Kelsey Sheridan (2:28.81), Emmaline Hannan (2:29.29), and Sydney Wingler (2:33.44) would secure top finishes in the race. 

At Grand Valley State University, both Abby Schroff and Alyssa Vis would represent JCU in the open mile. Schroff would finish 12th overall with a time of 5:03.93, while Vis would run 5:07.91 to place 25th overall in the race. 

The next day, the women's distance medley relay of Abby Schroff, Sandra King, Ellie Kitsmiller, and Alyssa Vis would place 14th overall with a time of 12:06.69. 

On Saturday, February 15th, the Blue Streaks traveled to Westerville, Ohio at Otterbein University for the DIII All-Ohio Championships. 

The women went on to finish fifth overall as a team, scoring 63 points against Ohio schools. 

In the women's 400 meter dash, junior Paige Munchick would run to a new personal best with a time of 1:01.67 finishing fifth overall in the race. 

Both Dakota Houston (7.69 seconds) and Mia Scott (7.98 seconds) would also earn new personal bests and place first and sixth in the 60 meter dash. Houston is now .04 seconds away from the school record. 

Houston would later return for the 200 meter dash (25.81 seconds) and the long jump (5.39 meters), where she would win those events as well. Houston would have a day for the Blue Streaks as she would earn valuable points for the team. 

In the field events, senior Cara Jewett would come back and compete the next day and earn a new personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 15.34 meters. 

The women's high jump was won by a Blue Streak. Senior Emmy Bryan would secure the victory and earn a new personal best in the process with a mark of 1.63 meters. 

Next up for the women will be the Greater Cleveland Classic hosted by Case Western Reserve University on Friday, February 21st.
