ADA – The Blue Streaks returned to the track to officially open their 2025 campaign at the Rob & Patty Lydic Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

Meet Results

Throughout the meet, the energy was unmatched. Individuals from every single event group supported each other and came together to put up solid performances to help set the tone early for what this program can do this season.

To get things started in the field events, sophomore Jeremy Frazao and first year Jordon Rodman would tie for a second place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.86 meters.

Senior Jimmy Kartsonas would have a day for the Blue Streaks. First, he went on to win the 60 meter hurdles with a new personal record of 8.15 seconds, which is also a new school record. Kartsonas would break a nine year school record previously held by Nick Williams in 2015. He would later return for the triple jump and place first overall with a new personal record of 14.26 meters.

In the men's weight throw, senior Matthew Russo would lead for JCU as he would record a new personal record of 15.35 meters, followed by Moose Frombach (13.00 meters) placing fifth and first year Troy Buehner (11.96 meters) placing seventh.

The Blue Streaks would then catch fire as junior Basheer Alramahi would set a new NCAA Division III national record in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:03.26 to win the event. He broke Matt McBride's previous record of 1:03.35 and is now second all-time. His time is also a new facility record at Ohio Northern.

The 400 meter dash was led by sophomore Tim Herczog, who would place fifth overall with a time of 53.62 seconds, followed by sophomore Tony Tirado, who would clock in at 53.92 seconds placing seventh.

JCU would then go on to have four runners in the top four in the men's 1000 meter run. Sophomores Josh Ackerman (2:36.03) and Chris Whiting (2:38.07) would run new personal bests in the event, while first years Charlie Payne (2:36.21) and Grant Preto (2:36.27) would place second and third.

The top three in the men's 200 meter dash would all run personal records including Reece Bacak (22.78 seconds), Colby Humbert (23.11 seconds), and Matteo Taillet (23.15 seconds) to put on a good showcase for the Blue Streaks.

The meet would conclude with the 3000 meter run, highlighted by first year Matthew Dienes and junior James Johnson. Dienes would go on to place third overall with a time of 9:18.60 and Johnson would place fourth overall with a time of 9:27.53.

It was a great day for the men as they will look to ride this wave of momentum next week.

Next up for the Blue Streaks will be the Spire Midwest Invitational at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday, January 25th.
