Women’s Track & Field Performs At Spartan Holiday Lidlifter To Start Indoor Season

CLEVELAND, OH – Track & field is back for the Blue Streaks and the women got things rolling this past Saturday. 

The team made the short trip over to Case Western Reserve University for the Spartan Holiday Lidlifter at the Veale Convocation, Recreation, and Athletic Center.

Things got started with the throwing events as senior Cara Jewett would come out of the gate with a huge personal best in the weight throw, placing fifth overall with a mark of 14.90 meters, followed by junior Sarah Hart placing seventh with a mark of 14.18 meters. 

Senior Massey Andrykovitch would have herself a day for the Blue Streaks as she would earn a new personal best in the long jump, placing fourth overall with a mark of 5.05 meters. She would later return for the triple jump and place second overall with a mark of 9.91 meters. Paige Munchick would personal best three times throughout the event as she would end with a new mark of 4.91 meters to place seventh. 

In the women's high jump, senior Emmy Bryan would leap to a new personal best of 1.60 meters to place second overall. 

Moving on to the running events, Ellie Gallagher, the first year out of Hudson, Ohio would make her debut in the 60 meter hurdles and place eighth overall with a time of 10.19 seconds. 

Another first year who competed well in her first meet was Sandra King as she would place second overall in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.74, earning a new personal best in the process. 

In the 60 meter dash, senior Mia Scott would lead for the Blue Streaks as she would place third overall with a time of 8.06 seconds, followed by first year Kate Balland, who would run 8.19 seconds to place fourth. 

To conclude the meet, in the 200 meter dash, Sandra King (26.61 seconds) and Kate Balland (27.31 seconds) would set new personal records, followed by Mia Scott (27.35 seconds) and Kaleigh McNamara (27.70 seconds) as they would all finish in the top 10 for the Blue Streaks. 

The women will return to competition on Friday, January 17th as they will travel to Ohio Northern University for the Rob and Patty Lydic Invitational in Ada, Ohio. 

It was a meet full of numerous personal bests and debuts for the women as they would post a spectacular first meet of the indoor season.
