Women’s Cross Country Finishes 5th Place Overall At NCAA Regional Championships

Women's Cross Country Places 5th Overall At NCAA Regional Championships
SHELBYVILLE, IN - After months of preparation and training, the women's cross country team traveled to Shelbyville, Indiana for the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships hosted by Franklin University at Blue River Memorial Park. 

The women would go on to place fifth overall, scoring a total of 185 points to earn their fifth consecutive top five finish at the regional championships. Two runners from JCU would earn Great Lakes All-Region honors for the team. 

It was a close finish for the regional championship as Depauw University would take home the team title, scoring a total of 91 points, followed by the Calvin Knights with a score of 94 points. Finishing in third place overall was Trine University, scoring 109 points and rounding up the top four was Wittenberg University with 165 points.

Women's 6k Results

Leading for the Blue Streaks for the third straight meet of the season was senior Annie Higgins, who would go on to earn her second Great Lakes All-Region honor of her career, earning an 18th place finish for the Blue Streaks with a time of 22:36.73. 

Finishing second for JCU was senior Ellie Kitsmiller as she would go on to earn her fourth Great Lakes All-Region honor with placing 30th overall with a time of 22:53.86. 

First year Anne Rea continues to impress for the Blue Streaks as she would place 36th overall with a time of 22:59.52 to represent JCU as their third runner to cross the finish line. 

Coming in not long after was junior Alyssa Vis, who would place 44th overall with a time of 23:13.27 as she would get back within the top five for the women.

To round up the scoring for JCU was junior Cassie Klein as she went on to place 62nd overall and clock in at 23:35.47 to step up big for the team. 

Senior Sarah Weldon would place 68th overall with a time of 23:42.77 to finish out for the women.

The women's cross country team navigated through unprecedented adversity this year, with countless highlights, numerous personal bests, and historic marks that will last for a lifetime. The team will next take some much-needed rest before gearing up for the indoor track season.
