Women's Lacrosse Fires Past Muskies on a Beautiful Senior Day

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- In a Senior Day matchup against the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies, the John Carroll Women's Lacrosse team won by a score of 25-2.

In all, 13 Blue Streaks scored during the game in a complete team effort.

The Saturday afternoon game saw a season-high of goals scored by the Blue Streaks, as the offense remained a strong suit throughout the entirety of the game.

Senior attacker, Alex Heishman scored the game high of five goals also totaling seven assists as she recorded her career high of points in a single game (12).

"This definitely feels special with having family and friends in town for this game," said Heishman. "I clearly could not have done it without my team. We worked really hard all season. I'm just really grateful to be a part of such a caring and supportive family."

Heishman kicked off the opening scoring spree of the game as she finished the ball in the back of the net just 45 seconds into the first quarter.

John Carroll added nine more goals after Heishman's, as the Muskies only capitalized on a single offensive play in this quarter, trailing the home team, 10-1.

Muskingum fired back quickly in the first 20 seconds of the second quarter, but the Blue Streaks scored five unanswered goals to make the halftime score 15-2 in favor of John Carroll.

The second half was a similar story to the first, as the Blue & Gold scored a combined total of 10 goals. The defense was able to keep the Fighting Muskies off the scoreboard until the final two minutes of the game when Muskingum finished a goal in a man-up situation.

The buzzer signaled the end of the game as John Carroll earned themselves a 25-3 victory on their Senior Day Celebration.

Mary Doherty trailed behind Heishman with four goals as Carly Ross tallied three of her own. Shannon Burdick added one goal and five assists to aid the Blue and Gold in their win as she recorded a new career-high of assists in a single game.

Three goalkeepers played for John Carroll as Ava Welchans, Maddie Munding, and Livy Munding combined for seven saves during the game. Welchans got credit for the win in cage.

Ending their regular season play with an away game, the Blue Streaks will travel to Alliance to take on Ohio Athletic Conference rival, the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders, on Wednesday, April 27 at 7 p.m. This game will determine the No. 2 seed going into the OAC Tournament.

"The past few games have shown us how hard we have been working and it is paying off," said Heishman. "I think we have a good chance to win on Wednesday and head to the Championship. I'm really excited for Wednesday."
