Women's Lacrosse Wins Third Straight, Steamrolling Polar Bears

ADA, Ohio -- John Carroll Women's Lacrosse is on a roll.

The Blue Streaks have now won three in a row, with the latest victory occurring in dominant fashion on Friday.

John Carroll stormed past the Polar Bears on the road on Friday, April 15, conquering Ohio Northern, 16-6. JCU advances to 6-5 overall, 4-1 in OAC play.

The Blue & Gold offense couldn't be contained all day, but especially early on. Caylin Perryman opened the scoring at 11:28, aided by Shannon Burdick. Mary Doherty and Olivia Gerlach then  tallied goals for JCU, pushing the lead to 3-0 John Carroll after one quarter.

Lainey Donalson (Carly Ross assist) and Kendall Gessner each found twine in the opening few minutes of the second quarter. Ohio Northern finally broke the ice at 9:51, but JCU held a 5-1 lead that would not be overcome.

The final six goals of the opening half were scored by John Carroll. Gessner responded with a goal at 8:43, followed shortly after by Burdick's 20th goal of the year. Ross sandwiched an Olivia Hanulak tally with a couple goals, and Alex Heishman finalized the stanza with her 28th of the season.

The Blue Streaks enjoyed a sizable 11-1 advantage heading into the break.

Gessner got a hat trick to open the third. ONU tabbed a goal in response, but then Mary Doherty earned one for herself. ONU slimmed the deficit to 13-4 entering the fourth, but this day belonged to the Blue Streaks.

Burdick, Donalson, and Lauren Schwartz all found twine in the fourth quarter, cementing a satisfying 16-6 conquest for the Blue Streaks.

Gessner led JCU in goals with three, while Ross topped the team with 4 points. Doherty enjoyed a heck of a game with 6 groundballs and 5 draw controls.

In cage, Ava Welchans got the win, tabbing 3 saves in 36 minutes. Livy Munding and Maddie Munding each got time in net, as well.

John Carroll dominated in just about every category, including shots (42-12), shots on goal (30-9), turnovers (17-27), groundballs (31-15), and draw controls (18-8).

The Blue Streaks will take a couple days off now for Easter. After the break, the Blue Streaks will confront Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday.
