A 12-0 Run Propels JCU Women's Lacrosse to Easy Win in Berea

BEREA, Ohio -- John Carroll Women's Lacrosse stayed hot on Wednesday evening.

The Blue Streaks kept firing on all cylinders, winning a fourth straight. The Blue & Gold got off to a fast start against Baldwin Wallace and never looked back.

The Blue & Gold cruised to a 17-9 victory in Berea, advancing to 7-5 overall, 5-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

In a display of strength, the Blue Streaks were downright dominant in the first half. John Carroll scored the first 12 goals of the game, not allowing a Baldwin Wallace tally until the 13:58 mark of the third quarter. In other words, it wasn't just a good showing, it was a great game for the Blue Streaks.

Shannon Burdick got the game's first goal at 11:51 of the first. Mary Doherty netted a pair of quick ones, then Olivia Gerlach got going with a goal. Burdick and Gerlach traded times scoring, upping the lead to 7-0 after the first quarter.

Carly Ross started the show in the second stanza with a goal and then an assist on an Olivia Hanulak goal. Hanulak helped on a Caylin Perryman gino and then found twine again. When the dust settled, John Carroll possessed a decisive 12-0 lead at the break.

The Yellow Jackets found some momentum in the second half, as JCU eased off the gas. But Alex Heishman snagged her 29th and 30th goals of the year to keep the hosts at a safe distance, 14-3.

Baldwin Wallace managed to score some in the late goings, but it was not enough for a miracle comeback. Lainey Donalson, Carly Ross, and Shannon Burdick all made sure as much with goals in the fourth quarter, sending JCU home to the east side with a 17-9 conquest.

Overall, Burdick led the way with 4 goals. Hanulak helped to steer the ship, too, with 3 goals and 2 assists. Burdick and Hanulak added 3 groundballs apiece, too. Doherty's 5 draw controls topped the team.

In cage, Ava Welchans earned the win, playing the full 90 minutes. She made 8 saves for the Blue & Gold.

John Carroll will get back to it on Saturday, hosting Muskingum for Senior Day in the final home game of the regular season.
