| By:
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The road has not been kind to John Carroll University Softball, and the tough luck continued on Saturday.

In a road twinbill at Mount Union, the Blue Streaks lost twice on the road.

In Game 1, the Purple Raiders rolled to a 12-1 conquest. Mount Union captured a 9-2 victory in Game 2.

Game 1

The Blue Streaks got on the board first to start Saturday. Kasyn Scarantine drew one hit by pitch closer to the school record with a 1-out HBP. She advanced to second base on a bunt single by Emma Gurley, who's enjoying a good year at the dish.

Following a strikeout, Gabby Hougan doubled to left, plating Scarantine for the first run of the day. Mount Union's Ashley Cascio escaped the jam with a strikeout.

The Purple Raiders responded with the tying run in the bottom of the first. Mount Union opened things up with a single and a stolen base. After a strikeout and a groundout, the Purple Raiders scratched a run across the plate with an RBI single to center. The score stood tied at one after the first.

Crista Nativio singled with two outs in the second, but nothing came of it. Mount Union stole the lead in the bottom half of the frame with five runs. With a double and back-to-back singles, the hosts loaded the bases. A JCU error allowed a run to score, and then a double brought in two more. After an RBI grounder, the Blue Streaks got out of the inning, trailing 6-1.

The Purple Raiders plated four more runs in the third. Back-to-back singles started things off, with an RBI sacrifice fly plating the first run. An RBI single scored another, and a 2-run homer set the score at 10-1.

Mount Union completed the scoring in the bottom of the fourth. With a single, walk, and double steal, Mount Union set two runners in scoring position with no outs. A groundout and a sac fly plated the two runs, advancing the lead to 12-1.

Nativio walked and Scarantine singled to set the stage for a rally, but a fielder's choice and a popout ended the contest.

Katie DeBoard absorbed the loss for JCU. The visitors managed four hits, with Hougan's 1-for-2 day with the RBI double highlighting the offense.

Game 2

The backend of the twinbill opened up with three quick half-innings, as the first hit didn't occur until Maddie Traub singled to second in the top of the second. Meanwhile, Danielle Orendi started off the game well in the circle. The Purple Raiders opened the scoring in the second, but only scratched one across the plate.

The Blue Streaks rallied to snatch the lead in the third. Bressoud reached base on an error and soon stole second. Scarantine reached on an error, and then stole second. Gurley grounded out to the pitcher to plate Bressoud and send Scarantine to third. After a Kristen Jesberger walk, Hougan doubled to left to score Scarantine.

The hosts quickly tied things up in the bottom part of the frame. Following a 1-out double, a steal, and a walk, an error allowed a run to knot the contest at 2-2.

A 2-out rally put Mount Union in the driver's seat in the bottom of the fourth. Following back-to-back singles, an error loaded the bases. A 2-run single to left field placed the Purple Raiders ahead, 4-2.

Gurley walked in the fifth, but it didn't spark the offense. In the bottom of the inning, the Purple Raiders cemented their lead. Back-to-back singles set the stage for Hanna Ingram, who clubbed a 3-run home run to left field. A couple of singles pushed the margin to 8-2.

After a 1-2-3 JCU top of the sixth, Mount Union nabbed another run in the bottom half. Two walks and an error allowed the Purple Raiders to stretch the score to 9-2.

In the seventh, Aislyn McQueen reached on an error with one out, but a groundout and a popout ended things. The Blue Streaks drop to 4-19 overall, 4-17 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
