Box Score 2 John Carroll softball kicked off the season in style, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning to topple #11 Alma, 3-2, in Clermont, Fla.
The Blue Streaks would drop their second game to St. Mary's (Minn.), 8-0.
In the first game,
Taylor Tercek was driven in on a
Carly Simecek single in the third inning. #11 Alma would drive in two runs in the fifth inning, and was in control until the seventh. When
Christie Wade scored on a passed ball, the Blue Streaks swung momentum the other way.
Tercek played the role of hero, driving in
Angie Zappitelli on a single to give JCU the 3-2 upset.
AnnMarie Kirchner closed out the game, earning a save.
Jessica Cook (1-0) got the win.
In game two, St. Mary's defeated JCU in five innings. A four-run fifth inning sparked by a home run ended the contest.
Brianna Lach (0-1) was the losing pitcher.
