Libby Fickel enters her fourth season as an assistant athletic trainer as an employee of John Carroll University in the 2025-26 academic year.
Fickel (nee Medvin), a Seven Hills native, primarily works with the wrestling and softball teams.
Fickel arrived at JCU after a stint at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania. The Padua Franciscan alum arrived at Gannon in July 2021, working primarily with the Golden Knights’ women’s soccer, women’s wrestling, and women’s water polo programs.
Before her time at Gannon, Fickel worked at King University in Bristol, Tennessee. With the Tornadoes, Fickel worked with women’s soccer, men’s wrestling, softball, and men’s and women’s golf.
Prior to working at King University, she completed her graduate assistantship at Bluefield College, where she worked with women’s soccer, men’s wrestling, and men’s and women’s tennis, all while assisting with the football and baseball programs.
Fickel earned her bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of Mount Union in 2018 before earning her master’s in health promotion from Concord University in 2020. She married Brent Fickel in June 2025.
