Women's Lacrosse Wins Third In A Row Against Fredonia State At Home

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The clouds parted and the sun shined on Don Shula Stadium for John Carroll Women's Lacrosse on Saturday, making the third home game of the season the most pleasant.

The Blue Streaks enjoyed the sun, shining bright in a dominant 16-9 victory over Fredonia State

John Carroll advances to 4-3 on the year midway through the 4-game homestand.

Anna Spitzer started the scoring just 12 seconds into the game, firing home an Abby Cassidy pass. Following a Fredonia goal, JCU responded with back-to-back tallies by Cassidy and Kenzie Krom. The Blue Devils then took advantage of a yellow card on JCU, scoring on an instant free-position goal. Fredonia enjoyed a two-woman advantage heading into the second period.

Just after killing off the cards, Riley Knapp netted a nice goal. But once again, a JCU yellow card led to a Fredonia goal to even it up at 4-4 early in the second. Spitzer then made a nice cut to the crease and slotted home a nice pass from Cassidy top left for the lead. Just 12 seconds after Fredonia's answer, Krom raced down the field and nailed a bouncer to grab the lead back for good. Cassidy then hit a nice lefty crossbody shot, leading to a Fredonia timeout with the hosts ahead, 7-5.

Just seconds after a Fredonia green card, Mea Musillo took a pass from Vaccarelli and scored. A Cassidy free-position goal kept the Blue Streaks in control entering the home stretch of the second. Musillo wrapped up the scoring just under a minute left in the half, setting the score at 10-5 JCU at the break.

JCU's offensive success continued coming out of half. Vaccarelli and Cassidy did the damage in the opening portion of the period, showcasing nice passing and moves. Knapp then got in on the fun with a quick caused turnover and a goal. With under a minute left in the third, Vivian Rung fired home the golden goal to get the clock running. JCU took a 15-5 lead into the fourth quarter.

With the game out of hand in the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils scored some goals, but it didn't matter, as the Blue Streaks held on for a clear victory.

Abby Cassidy tied a career high with 7 points and added a team-high 6 draw controls. Anna Spitzer and Mea Musillo both thrived with 5 points apiece. Josephine Lawler got the starting nod in net and made 3 saves. Riley Knapp enjoyed a nice game with 2 goals and 3 caused turnovers plus a team-best 4 groundballs. Emily Van Gorder tied her with 3 draw controls.
