Women's Swimming & Diving Strolls to First NCAC Victory over Oberlin

The Blue Streaks kickstarted the new year with a win

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Blue Streaks are back in action following a long break and training period between meets. And what's more, John Carroll Women's Swimming & Diving picked up its first North Coast Athletic Conference victory.

The Blue Streaks certainly showed no signs of rust in the first action of 2026 in the dominant win on Friday evening.

In NCAC action, the Blue Streaks coasted past the Oberlin College Yeowomen, 172-45. 

Results

To start things off, the Blue Streaks won the 200 Medley Relay. Audrey Sevald, Olivia Goodman, Gabby Adamczyk, and Mairin Dalziel teamed up for a time of 1:52.27. Sevald made it possible with a nice leadoff.

Sevald continued her excellent evening in the 200 Backstroke. The Akron native fired up a time of 2:07.27 for a fantastic win. Fetsko and Lauren Koppelmann completed the top-three sweep. To complete the day, Sevald scored a time of 4:41.39 for a top time. Koppelmann and Marina Sneyd snatched the top-three sweep. 

Ella Muzychak did strong work on the distance side for John Carroll. The Magnificat grad started by conquering the 1650 Free (aka the mile) with a time of 17:54.80. To follow it up, the Avon Lake native won the 500 Free with a time of 5:23.82.

Mairin Dalziel fired up a first-place finish in the 200 Free with a time of 2:00.73. Jenna Fetsko followed in second place. Later on, Dalziel led the charge in the 100 Free with a time of 55.12. Bree Shirkey (55.51) and JJ Gowetski (56.29) wrapped up the 1-2-3 sweep. In the 50 Free, Shirkey did the trick herself, winning the quick time with a time of 25.29. 

Two other wins brightened the day for JCU. Goodman tore through the water in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:32.47. Adamczyk corralled a win in the 200 Fly, touching the wall in 1:39.48.

On the diving side, Catherine Braniecki snagged first on the 1 Meter board (157.95) and first on the 3 Meter (164.70).

To finish things off, JCU captured the win in the 200 Free Relay. Grace Roberts, Kaitlyn Hilty, Gowetski, and Adamczyk worked together for the winning time of 1:44.66.

The Blue Streaks have a quick turnaround, heading to Cleveland State for the Cleveland Classic vs. Baldwin Wallace and CSU on Saturday at 3 pm.
