Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes 4th at NCAC Championships

The Blue Streaks completed the four-day marathon in the top half of the NCAC standings

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The first foray into the North Coast Athletic Conference can be called a success for John Carroll Women's Swimming & Diving.

The Blue Streaks achieved some nice results at the 2026 NCAC Championships and importantly finished in the upper echelon of the conference after four days at Denison University. 

At the meet's conclusion, the Blue Streaks stood clearly in fourth place with 1037 points, behind first-place Kenyon (1944), Denison (1853) and DePauw (1377.5), but firmly ahead of fifth-place Wooster (991).

Audrey Sevald completed what was a memorable weekend for the Akron native. The sophomore stood strong in seventh place in the 200 Backstroke for JCU, carding 26 points with a mark of 2:04.90. Lauren Koppelmann also snagged eighth shortly after with a mark 2:08.51, garnering more bigtime points for JCU. In the B final, Jenna Fetsko raced to the front of the pack with a 10th place time of 2:10.33.

Mairin Dalziel wrapped up a fantastic career for JCU individually in the 100 Free. The Michigander clinched a spot in the A final and tallied a time of 53.21 for ninth place. It's been great watching the talented swimmer from Royal Oak, Michigan swim the last four years. Meanwhile, Bree Shirkey won the B final with a time of 53.59. Dylayn Shipe, Taylor Hudson, and Kyan Snider-Mills all tabbed points in the C final. 

Likewise, Olivia Goodman has been an awesome swimmer for the Blue Streaks. The Rochester, Michigan native has been a stalwart for JCU and concluded her individual career with a berth to the A final of the 200 Breaststroke. The senior stood tall with a sixth-place time of  2:27.63. In the B final, Kami Contakis (11th, 2:33.85) Kaitlyn Hilty and (12th, 2:35.47) both scored points for JCU.

JJ Gowetski snuck into the A final of the 100 IM for the Blue Streaks. The sophomore extraordinaire clocked in at 1:02.25 for ninth in the event, a nice feat to swim in the A final. 

The 200 Fly was full of Blue Streaks. Gabrielle Adamczyk won the heat with a time of 2:10.05. Grace Roberts (12th, 2:15.12), Marina Sneyd (13th, 2:15.36), and Alyssa Galley (16th, 2:22.80) all repped JCU with pride. 

In the diving, Catherine Braniecki tallied a score of 298.95 and 26 important points for the JCU cause with a seventh-place finish. 

The Blue Streaks clinched the fourth-place spot with a fourth-place effort in the final event, the 400 Free Relay. Sevald, Gowetski, Adamczyk, and Shirkey combined for a time of 3:36.57. 

"It was a fantastic first outing for us at the NCAC Championships," said Head Coach Mark de Swardt. "The step up in competition has been great for our team and we really showed our depth this week. Looking forward to moving up in the conference each year."
