Women's Tennis enjoyed a fantastic campaign on and off the court

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- The 2024-25 academic year was a banner campaign for John Carroll Women's Tennis. The Blue Streaks reached the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship match while excelling in the classroom.

As a team, the Blue Streaks achieved a 3.86 grade point average in the fall as a team and a 3.90 GPA in the spring, much above the 3.5 team GPA needed for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team award.

Individually, Caroline Chandler, Madi Davila, Evelyn Deren, Maddie Kavenagh, Felicity Kolb, and Emma Smith all secured ITA's Scholar Athlete Awards.

Chandler completed an outstanding JCU career by snagging both Academic All-OAC and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District recognition. She graduated with a double major in Communications and Political Science in May as the lone senior on the squad. This is her third ITA Scholar Athlete honor.

Davila broke through in her first season in University Heights, authoring many great victories, including a notable clincher vs. Otterbein. A Pre-Nursing major, she was an Honorable Mention All-OAC choice with an 11-5 mark in both singles and doubles this year.

Deren did strong enough work to warrant both Academic All-OAC and CSC Academic All-District accolades. The Accountancy major snagged First Team All-OAC honors for a second straight season, going 8-7 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. This is her second ITA plaque.

Kavenagh excelled atop the lineup, likewise tagging both Academic All-OAC and CSC Academic All-District honors. The Excercise Science major wrapped up First Team All-OAC honors, highlighted by 8 wins, all in straight sets. Like Deren, this is her second ITA award.

Kolb catapulted to both Academic All-OAC and CSC Academic All-District distinction. The Chemisty major notched a spot on the All-OAC Second Team for the third consecutive season, sporting an 11-5 record on the year. She can now count herself as a three-time ITA Scholar Athlete.

Smith burst onto the scene in her debut season at JCU. The Pre-Nursing major achieved Honorable Mention All-OAC status.
