Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Joe Ginley '16, SID

Blue Streaks Set All Kinds of Records in Blowout Win over Berg

JCU Men's Lacrosse dominated in every facet, most especially offensively

TIFFIN – In a word, Wednesday evening was historic for John Carroll Men's Lacrosse.

The game itself between John Carroll and Heidelberg was not competitive, as the Blue Streaks earned a lopsided 29-0 victory. But it certainly was a fun one if you rooted for the Blue & Gold.

The Blue Streaks set a host of records en route to the road victory, which evened out John Carroll to 4-4 on the season. John Carroll burned out to a hot start, leading 11-0 after the first period and 20-0 at half. So, a play-by-play recap is not needed here. Instead, the focus of this recap is on the records set.

Individually, Sean Keane and Braden Zarek shattered memorable program records, surpassing a legendary figure in program history.

Keane registered 13 goals, surpassing Skyler Blake's previous mark of 12 (vs. Muskingum on April 24, 2021). The Buffalo native scored more goals tonight than in his last 7 games combined. Not only that, the junior tied the NCAA mark for goals in a game, evening up with Ed Ryder (SUNY Oneonta vs. FDU-Florham, March 28, 1987), Tim Chapman (Gordon vs. U New England, April 7, 2001), and Quinn Fitzgerald (Wabash vs. Concordia Chicago, Feb. 25, 2023).

Zarek tallied 15 points, passing another Skyler Blake record (14: at Heidelberg on April 24, 2019 and vs. Muskingum on 4/21/21). The Brother Rice grad's 11 assists also surpassed Blake's previous assist mark of 10 (at Heidelberg on 4/24/19).

Nicholas Yemma came oh-so-close to joining them as a record breaker. The Buffalo native accumulated 21 groundballs, tying the program mark set by Clayton Karam (vs. Wilmington on April 13, 2019). Not only that, Yemma also tied the program best for faceoff wins with 31, achieved in the same Wilmington game as Karam by Evan Schneeberger.

As for team game records, the Blue Streaks broke team standards for assists (24), shots (80), and groundballs (66).

Josh Lombardo (5 goals, 2 assists) tied his career best for goals and set his collegiate best for points. Casey LaForce (4 goals) and Richard Moran (5 assists) also had great nights offensively with season-best marks. Camden Uchic notched a career-high 5 caused turnovers.

All 5 JCU goalies got time in net tonight. Devin Holder got the win, while Josh Wade, Reed Bateman, Hudson Bardeggia, and Michael Barton all enjoyed time in between the pipes.
