John Carroll Men's Lacrosse Continues Strong Start to Conference Play vs Capital

The Blue Streaks Improve to 4-4 on the year with the win

BEXLEY – The hot start to OAC play continued with a 17-13 victory over the Capital Comets for the John Carroll Men's Lacrosse Team.

With the win, the Blue Streaks remain at the top of the conference with a 3-0 conference record.

The start of the game was about as even as it gets. While Josh Lombardo and Casey LaForce got JCU on the board with early scores, Capital replied with a 3-goal run. Thankfully from there, the Blue Streaks authored a 3-1 run the rest of the period, as Owen Halpin, Lombardo, and Braden Zarek earned a narrow 5-4 lead for JCU after the opening stanza.

Capital and John Carroll traded goals for the start of the second, but JCU broke through late. Lombardo and Sean Hogan found twine to get the visitors ahead at half, 8-6.

Capital's advantage on faceoffs aided the hosts' effort in the opening half, but turnovers hindered the Comets. Josh Wade got the call from the bench to man the cage, and did well in relief, notching 5 saves.

Spurred forward by a fiery Joe Rautenstrauch halftime speech, the Blue Streaks roared out of the gates in the second half. With goals from Billy Paladino, Sean Keane, and Zarek, the Streaks burst out to a 12-6 advantage. But the momentum ended there, as Capital dominated the remainder of the quarter, rolling to a 3-0 run to narrow the deficit to three entering the fourth.

Keane corralled the JCU offense to start the fourth, firing home two of the quarter's first three goals. But the Comets refused to quit, as a 3-1 run made things interesting. JCU's advantage narrowed to just two at the midpoint of the period, 14-12. But the veteran Streaks put away the Comets down the stretch, ending the game on a 3-1 run of their own thanks to goals from Richard Moran, Hogan and LaForce, respectively.

Zarek, Lombardo and Keane continued their potent offensive play and combined for 11 goals in this contest. Keane also tallied 6 ground balls, as did Nicholas Yemma. Yemma, Camden Uchic and Ivan Roeder each caused 2 turnovers as well.
