The Men's Swimming and Diving team flexed their muscles Friday Night
AKRON -- With three more OAC Championship events on Friday, the Blue Streaks have their ninth consecutive overall conference title in their sights.

"It's been a really good day. This day of the championships is really difficult and people are tired," said Head Coach Mark de Swardt. "The finish line is not quite there, so for everybody to step up and swim as well as they did is exciting."

John Carroll is well ahead in first place with 617 points, far ahead of Ohio Northern in second (440).

The Blue Streaks hit the pool fast to begin the evening, winning an OAC Championship and earning an NCAA B Cut in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Luke Novak, Bart Kubis, Bryce Liddell, and Daniel Argalious combined to swim a time of 1:29.14.

Joe Nadur continued his dominance in the 400 Yard Individual Medley event. Nadur was milliseconds away from his OAC record of 3:59.18 after swimming a 4:00.0. This marked his third straight OAC Championship in the event. The junior from Dublin, Ohio is now the third Blue Streak to win three straight 400 IMs, joining Matt Olver and Eric Richmond.

"I'm really blessed to win it for the third in a row," said Nadur. "Obviously, this is our last year here, so I'm just trying my best to enjoy it."

In the 100 Yard Butterfly, the Blue Streaks locked up second through fifth place after Baldwin Wallace's Tommie McQueary swam an incredible race worthy of an NCAA B Cut. Liddell solidified his fourth consecutive All-OAC honor in the event with a second-place finish. Argalious also earned All-OAC honors with a third-place finish.

Wilmington's Sondre Haugen barely edged Cameron Cook in the 200 Yard Freestyle, swimming a time of 1:39.01. Haugen's time broke an OAC record set by Cook just a few hours earlier in prelims.

Kubis got the Blue Streaks back on track with an OAC title and NCAA B Cut in the 100 Breaststroke. His time of 54.69 was less than half a second away from the OAC record. Ian Hoffman swam into third place at 55.82, a great race for the first-year swimmer.

A pair of Blue Streaks topped the podium of the 100 Yard Backstroke. Luke Novak bookended his JCU career with a first-place finish after his first victory in the event came in 2022. David Miller finished just behind Novak, with a time of 50.26, as the former OAC Swimmer of the Week earned his first medal.

The final day of the OAC Championships will begin with prelims on Saturday at 10 am. The finals will start at 5:45 pm. Senior recognition will take place at 5:30 pm.
