Malley scored a 67 (-5) in the second round to grab medalist and help JCU overcome a 10-stroke hole

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Austin Malley will be taking home much-deserved hardware after an otherworldly day on the course on Tuesday.

The junior's overall two-round effort at the Jeff Roope Invitational was a strong one, but his Tuesday score of 67 (-5) was an exceptional one deserving of plenty of praise.

Guided by Malley, the Blue Streaks tied for first with the host Wittenberg University, recording a final tally of 295-289-584 to finish the fall.

Malley's excellent showing guided a 10-stroke comeback on the second day at Springfield Country Club. Without a doubt, it was one that Head Coach Jeff Pawlowski '91 had to be proud of despite JCU losing a two-man, sudden death aggregate playoff on the first hole.

The opening round featured a trio of birdies for Malley. But that was nothing compared to what the Venetia, Pennsylvania native would achieve on day two. The junior roared for an unbelievable five birdies on the front nine, plus one on No. 12. Malley did not have one bogey the entire day en route to a supreme score of 67. For the event, Malley registered a 138, four strokes better than the second-placer from Wittenberg.

Justy VonLehmden stood second with a strong weekend in his own right. Monday's round was scattered on the front nine but very good on the back nine, as he avoided any bogeys while birdieing three times on the final nine. Five birdies on Tuesday helped him finish one-under-par at 71, good for a third-place tie.

Wade Boyle finished just one stroke back in a tie for sixth place. The junior fired up a strong one-under-par effort on Monday's front nine before clipping a final of 73 (+1). He took a slight step back on the second day, but not much of one, with a final tally of 74 (+2) keyed by back-to-back birdies on No. 11 and 12.

Daniel Donahue (78-77-155) and London Hoyser (76-79-155) arrived at the same conclusion with a tie for 17th in a packed field of 52 golfers.

Competing as an individual, Max Devins carded a 76-80-156 for John Carroll.
