Women's Basketball Dispatches Heidelberg in Tiffin

The Blue Streaks dominated most of the road affair

TIFFIN – Riding a four-game conference win streak, John Carroll Women's Basketball brought plenty of momentum into Wednesday's league game at Heidelberg University.

Following a couple wins against Capital and Otterbein, both in the top echelon of the Ohio Athletic Conference standings, JCU faced the Student Princes, winless in OAC play.

Thanks to a quick start, the Blue Streaks breezed to a win in Tiffin, 67-55.

The first three minutes were even at 6-6, and then the visitors roared. John Carroll roared for a 16-4 run to end the quarter, as five different players scored for JCU. Ella Neitzel and Graci Semptimphelter both buried threes to push the lead to 22-10 at the first break.

An early Kaylie McKenney layup kept up the pressure to start the second quarter. While Berg countered slightly with four straight points, the Blue Streaks responded with a 13-point burst to really take command. An Ava Ryncarz 3-pointer and a pair of Abigail Rosol free throws punctuated the run. JCU stood ahead by 18 points at half, 38-20.

Ryncarz rolled to being the third, scoring eight of JCU's first nine points of the quarter. Katie Puletti added the final emphasis to the third, hitting a late triple to set JCU by 20 points entering the fourth quarter.

Heidelberg tried to keep it close late, getting within single digits in the fourth quarter. But the Blue Streaks made free throws late to take care of business.

Ava Ryncarz led all scorers with 24 points. Graci Semptimphelter and Carly Perusek both tabbed 10 points. Perusek notched 9 rebounds, continuing a strong stretch for the Beaumont alum, while Semptimphelter added a team-high 4 steals.
