Win Streak Continues for JCU Volleyball, as Blue Streaks Beat W&J

OBERLIN, Ohio – The fun continued on Saturday afternoon for John Carroll Volleyball.

The women of Michele Benoit continue to thrive, as the team's hot streak marches on. The Blue Streaks capped off the Oberlin Invitational with a victory over Washington & Jefferson.

John Carroll earned the win via set scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-18 to advance to 3-0 for the weekend, 6-1 on the campaign.

Following an even start to the match, John Carroll fired up a 7-2 run to open a 14-9 lead. While the Presidents worked to keep the set within reach, the Blue Streaks did not allow W&J to build any significant stretches. W&J called a timeout with the score 23-18 JCU, which helped win the next point. But then Mary Kate Sheehan thundered two excellent kills to end it, 25-19.

The second set featured a very similar set of events. The teams battled to a 9-9 tie before JCU broke out. A 10-2 JCU stretch, aided by a pair of Jessica Liddle kills, propelled JCU out in front, 18-11. A handful of late attack errors by W&J ensured no comeback was in the making, as JCU won comfortably, 25-16.

John Carroll fired out to a hot start in the third set and didn't look back. Powered in part by a pair of Olivia Mogyordy aces, the Women of Carroll fired out to an 8-3 lead. Later on, a 4-0 run that featured a pair of Deja Whitten kills plus a block by Whitten and Abby Bednar, the Blue Streaks moved ahead to 18-11. After some back and forth, the Blue Streaks finished things off with an Emma Manley kill in a comfortable 25-18 set win.

Bednar continued her fantastic start to her JCU career, topping the team with 11 kills, followed by Jessica Liddle with eight. Tess Humphrey made a lot of it possible with 22 assists. Mogyordy tabbed 18 digs, while Hailey Williams contributed 10.
