Men's Lacrosse Storms Past Heidelberg in Home Finale

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- After a storm rolled through Don Shula Stadium, John Carroll created one of their own on the offensive front. The Blue Streaks got on the board early and managed to keep Heidelberg off completely with a final score of 24-0.

The win marked JCU's sixth in a row as the Blue Streaks advance to 7-4 on the campaign.

The Blue Streaks started out hot in the first, tallying ten goals throughout the quarter. Josh Lombardo started things off, with a Colin Morrissey assist. Seamus Nicholson was the next Blue Streak to find the back of the net off another assist from Morrissey. Morgan Morrell and Braden Zarek added to John Carroll's lead. By the end of one, Morrell and Nicholson each had three a piece, Morrissey had two, with Lombardo and Zarek each having one as well.

The Blue Streaks' defense kept the Student Princes at bay and limited them to one singular shot during the entire first quarter.

In the second, JCU strung together another few goals to increase the score to 14-0. Morrell tallied two more goals, with Morrissey and Lombardo adding one more each to the Blue Streaks score. Charlie Freer recorded his first collegiate assist with Max Cook earning his first on the season.

On the defensive side of the ball, Hudson Bardeggia stepped into the goal for the Blue Streaks and finished the half with two saves. John Carroll led 14-0 at the end of the first half.

Bardeggia started the third quarter off with another save to keep the Blue Streaks' shutout alive. John Carroll's offense continued to dominate, with Zarek kicking off the half with a behind the back goal from a pass off Morrissey. Lombardo also scored off another Morrissey feed advancing the score to 16-0.

Towards the end of the third, Freer and Nicholson brought the Blue Streaks up to an 18 point lead. Another Bardeggia save allowed the quarter to end with a score of 18-0.

During the fourth quarter, Sean Kennedy and Vinny Fiorella joined in on the offensive action to each add a goal to John Carroll's impenetrable lead. The Blue Streaks closed the game with a final score of 24-0.

Tonight, the Blue Streaks dominated on all fronts. The offense outshot the Student Princes 61-11. The Blue Streaks collected 60 ground balls through the match-up, cementing their spot in the record book with the fourth most ground balls in John Carroll's history.

Colin Morrissey led the Blue Streaks with 11 points, registering a career-high 8 assists. Morgan Morrell topped the team with 6 goals, while Seamus Nicholson tallied season highs in goals (5), assists (2), and points (7). Josh Lombardo tabbed 4 goals and Braden Zarek finished with 3.

The win over Heidelberg pushed the Blue Streaks record to 6-1 in conference play. This weekend, John Carroll will travel to Marietta, Ohio to face another OAC opponent.
