Men's Tennis Kicks Off OAC Play by Dominating the Raiders

MAYFIELD – Snow and cold precluded an outdoor match, so John Carroll Men's Tennis headed indoors for the team's Ohio Athletic Conference opener on Saturday evening.

The Blue Streaks dominated Mount Union from start to finish at Mayfield Village Racquet Club.

John Carroll picked up its second straight win, rolling in a 9-0 conquest of the Purple Raiders.

Grant Sarnowski and Logan Langovsky got doubles going with a clear victory, 8-0, at No. 1. Anthony Markello and Phillip Gorun got the next win at No. 3, 8-2. Dylan Westmeyer and Griffin Millspaugh completed the sweep at No. 2, 8-4.

Sarnowski made quick work of his foe at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0. And then Langovsky sealed the deal at No. 1, clinching the team win with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

Markello (6-0, 6-2) and Westmeyer (6-0, 6-0) got easy W's at No. 3 and No. 6 singles. Millspaugh's contest at No. 5 took a bit longer at 6-2, 6-2, but was still smooth.

Gorun's match took the longest at No. 4, but the sophomore got the job done. The Pittsburgher dropped his first set, 4-6, before rebounding in the second, 6-1. In the tiebreaker, Gorun finished in style with a 10-7 triumph.

The Blue Streaks have a quick turnaround, heading to Meadville, Pennsylvania to face the Allegheny Gators on Sunday at 1 pm.
