Blue Streaks Fall To Pioneers In Their Second OAC Matchup On The Road

MARIETTA - In their second meeting of the season, the Marietta Pioneers add another one to the win column.

The Marietta Pioneers defeated the John Carroll Blue Streaks by a final score of 87-69 at Ban Johnson Arena.

The Blue Streaks kept this close in the first half in a back-and-forth contest. John Carroll shot 44.4% from the field and was 8-18 in the first quarter, led by Ava Ryncarz who scored nine points and had three assists. The team kept Marietta on their toes only down by one point at the end of the 1st with a score of 20-19 favoring the Pioneers.

Marietta stretched their lead by nine points in the middle of the second quarter, but it wouldn't take long as Maddie Pietrowski would score a crucial two point jumper to put the Blue Streaks within seven, paired by Hallie Landies scoring a few free throws to minimize the Pioneers' lead. A three pointer by Ava Ryncarz would help John Carroll cut down Marietta's lead to four points going into halftime.

The Blue Streaks kept it close throughout the third quarter as Maddie Pietrowski would go on a scoring streak, which led her to scoring 21 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and having three steals.

In the 4th quarter, that's when Marietta would pull away from the Blue Streaks. After scoring four points late in the third quarter, the Pioneers would keep their foot on the gas going on a 13-0 run that bled into the fourth quarter Olivia Gribble would grab a quick three, followed by Hannah Kroft scoring a couple of free throws. Marietta would extend their lead to 15 points as they shot for 43.1% from the field and 40% from the three point line. Marietta's bench would propel as they scored 37 points and scored 18 points off turnovers.

Sophomore Ava Ryncarz would lead the Blue Streaks scoring 22 points, recording six rebounds and two assists. Hallie Landies would continue to help JCU as she scored eight points with four rebounds.

John Carroll will look to get back on track as they will take on the Cardinals of Otterbein at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center on Wednesday, February 14 at 7:00 PM. The Blue Streaks move to 7-9 in OAC play with a 12-11 overall record.
