Women's Swimming & Diving Surrenders First Loss of the Year to D-II Findlay

The Blue Streaks tallied some strong finishes and times in the defeat.
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- In the last meet before the holiday break, John Carroll Women's Swimming & Diving took on the University of Findlay at home this Friday. The Blue Streaks came into the night 5-0 in their dual meets. The Oilers are a Division II team and highly ranked in their division. The Blue Streaks were up against extremely tough competition and fought every step of the way. 

John Carroll fought valiantly but came up on the short end of a 183-108 loss to Findlay.

In the 200 Yard Medley Relay to start, the Streaks took third. The team of Lauren Koppelman, Grace Roberts, Olivia Goodman, and Mairin Dalziel finished the race at a time of 1:53.17. The longest race of the night, the 1650 Yard Freestyle, ended in two Blue Streaks on the podium. Regan Gunzy placed second in the race with 19:36.73 and Marina Sneyd placed third with 19:50.94. JCU was swept in the 200 Free, but took a top three place in the 100 yard Backstroke with Lauren Koppelmann earning third in 1:02.63. 

In the 100 Breaststroke, the Blue Streaks tallied another top-3 finish thanks to Kaitlyn Hilty landing in third with a 1:13.71. Bringing in the first title of the night, Olivia Goodman won the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:17.95 followed closely by Grace Roberts in second with 2:19.54. Mairin Dalziel earned a second-place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 25.02, and Abby Zablotny finished half a second later in second place. 

On the diving side of the pool, Anne Meunier placed first with a score of 222.52 on the one meter. Emily Gelske came in second with a 143.55 and Haley Boyle got third with a score of 132.22 at the same height. On the three meter board, Anne Meunier once again took first with a score of 208.72 followed by Emily Gelske in second with 159.67. 

Mairin Dalziel came back from the break with a third place finish in the 100 Free at 54.75. In the 200 Back, Lauren Koppelmann gained a few more points for the Blue Streaks by earning third with a time of 2:15.56. Olivia Goodman placed second in the 200 Breast with 2:35.96, and Kaitlyn Hilty earned another top three spot in the 200 Breast, where a time of 2:40.27 got her third. In the 500 Free, Madeline Jarosz finished in third with a time of 5:44.26. 

Grace Roberts earned another top finish with a third-place finish in the 100 Fly in 1:01.97. Going into the last two races of the night, Olivia Goodman took third in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:19.71. In the 200 Free Relay, Anna Glass, Kaitlyn Hilty, Grace Roberts, and Abby Zablotny earned a third-place finish with a time of 1:44.28 in the last race of the night. 

The meet ended with the Blue Streaks first loss of the season with a score of 174-108. The Blue Streaks will next swim on the road at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY on January 13. JCU's next home meet will be on Saturday, January 20 against Heidelberg University.
