Women's Basketball Falls to #12/21 Hope in First Road Game

HOLLAND, Mich. – In the first road action of the campaign, John Carroll Women's Basketball surrendered a loss.

The Blue Streaks lost the opener of the Hope College Tournament to the host Flying Dutch, 94-56.

With the loss, the Blue Streaks drop to 2-1 on the young season.

The preseason WBCA #12 / #21 D3hoops.com Flying Dutch sprinted out of the gates at West Ottawa High School. The hosts fired out to a 22-6 start by the end of the first quarter.

Hope continued to enjoy the home court as the game elapsed into the second and third quarters, maintaining large leads. John Carroll showed strong fight down the stretch, outscoring Hope in the fourth quarter, 28-14, but the result was never in doubt.

Ava Ryncarz provided a bright spot in defeat with a double-double, just the second of her young career. The sophomore scored 15 points and grabbed 11 boards. Much of her damage was done from downtown, as the Aurora native converted on 3-of-7 triples.

John Carroll will be back in action on Saturday, playing either Illinois Wesleyan or Puget Sound at 12:30 pm.
