Blue Streaks Sting Yellow Jackets in Berea

Jonathan Simoes broke a BW Natatorium pool record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.51.
BEREA, Ohio -- The John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving team took care of Baldwin Wallace at the BW Natatorium by a score of 133-63.
 
The Blue Streaks also won all but one swimming event, and marked their tenth straight victory over their crosstown rival.
 
JCU began the meet with a rare mixed 200 medley relay event, which included members of both the men's and women's teams from each school.  John Carroll went 1-2-3, with the winning team of Liam McDonnell, Jonah Venos, Allie Geletka, and Mairin Dalziel ending with a mark of 1:42.94.
 
The Blue and Gold also went 1-2-3 in the 1,000 freestyle, with Aidan O'Neill (10:26.76) taking the gold followed by Aidan Hulseman (10:30.75) and Andrew Chiapetta (10:33.83).
 
McDonnell won the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:45.06, while Bryce Liddell (22.00) and Jonathan Simoes (22.09) got first and second in the 50 freestyle.
 
Luke Novak (2:00.27) edged out second place Tommie McQueary from BW by 0.11 seconds in the 200 IM, and Liddell also won the 100 free (47.86).
 
John Carroll continued its dominance with a 1-2-3 placement in the 200 backstroke, with Simoes (1:55.51) setting the pool record by three seconds as the champion.
 
Freshman Joe Nadur won the 500 free (4:51.60) with Venos right behind (5:03.42), while Patrick Branch (2:17.24), Joe Kaiser (2:18.09), and Jake Farr (2:20.87) ended the individual events with another 1-2-3 finish in the 200 breaststroke.
 
The final event was another mixed relay, this time in the 200 freestyle with Dalziel, Rachel Halapchuk, Michael Heller, and Owen Holm winning with a mark of 1:33.87.
 
Evan Anderson was the lone diver competing for JCU, scoring a 141.35.
 
JCU will end its dual meet season against Wilmington on Saturday, January 28 at the Johnson Natatorium for Senior Day at 1pm.
