Men's Swimming & Diving Conquers Oberlin for First NCAC Win

The first meet of the season went well for the Blue Streaks

OBERLIN, Ohio – The first action of 2026 yielded a nice result for the Blue Streaks.

John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving secured its first North Coast Athletic Conference dual victory in program history, rolling for a win.

On Friday evening, the Blue Streaks fired up a dominant 157-66 victory over the Oberlin College Yeomen. 

Results

The race's opener provided a triumph for John Carroll. In the 200 Medley Relay, the quartet composed of David Miller, Alex Gallagher, Michael Vertikoff, and Cameron Cook blasted off for a time of 1:33.62 and first place.

On the distance side, Sam Kmet thrived in a stellar evening for the veteran. The junior conquered the competition in the 1650 Free, aka the mile, firing up a time of 16:08.69. The Revere native followed it up with a win in the 500 Free with a mark of 4:49.94. Jacob Burton and Mario Bondy completed the top three sweep.

Cook enjoyed a heck of a day for the Blue Streaks. Not long after a strong relay anchor, the Fredericksburg, Virginia native soared for a time of 1:42.87 to win the 200 Free. Kyle Priset and and Nathan Reigle completed the 1-2-3 sweep.

Later on in the 100 Free, Patrick Branch won the event with a time of 47.14. Cook trailed him closely in second at 47.30, while Priset finished off the sweep. Speaking of Branch, the senior killed it in the 50 Free, winning the event with a time of 21.41. 

Bart Kubis did strong work in the 200 Breaststroke, carding a time of 2:07.56. Gallagher trailed him in second. JCU got another 1-2 effort in the 200 Butterfly. Vertikoff, a blossoming star from Hilliard, claimed first in 1:58.02. Zach Marinis trailed in second at 1:59.09.

Joe Nadur swam a fantastic 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:04.92 for the Blue and Gold. The senior is certainly one to watch heading into the season's stretch run. Another win occurred in the 200 Backstroke, courtesy of Jacob Florio. The rookie from North Royalton tabbed a time of 1:56.32.

To close out the evening, John Carroll strolled for a win in the 200 Free Relay. Kubis, Reigle, Ian Hofmann, and Branch did strong work together for first with a time of 1:26.90.

The Blue Streaks have a quick turnaround, heading to Cleveland State for the Cleveland Classic vs. Baldwin Wallace and CSU on Saturday at 3 pm.
