Volleyball Tames Penn State Behrend to Push Win Streak to Nine

ERIE, Pa. -- I-90 has seen lots of John Carroll travelers this week. Women's Soccer and Men's Soccer sojourned to Erie on Wednesday, and Volleyball headed to the Flagship City on Friday.

The Blue Streaks didn't let a little time on a bus halt a lengthy winning streak.

John Carroll extended the string of consecutive victories to nine matches, the longest since 1996. The Blue Streaks captured a 19-25, 25-14, 25-12, 25-15 victory over Penn State Behrend.

While the first five conquests of this now 9-game winning streak came in sweep fashion, the four since haven't been so easy. Tonight, the Blue Streaks fell behind with a first set loss, 25-19, before bouncing back in style.

The Blue Streaks surged thanks to excellence up front. Four Blue Streaks reached double digits in kills tonight. As per usual, fifth-year star Cassi Calamunci led the charge, registering 17 kills and an otherworldly .516 attack percentage. The Sylvania native, who also tabbed 16 digs, is on quite the roll as of late.

Abigail Kirk kept up her excellent work with 11 kills. Jessica Liddle matched a career high with 10 kills, adding 3 blocks. Kendra Dziubinski enjoyed one of the best nights of her young career, as the freshmen reached 10 kills for the first time this season. As a team, the Blue Streaks registered a wonderful attack percentage of .293, compared to just .125 for the Lions.

Maddie Maziarz continued her outstanding junior season. The Pittsburgher talled a career best 27 assists for JCU tonight. Ally Bartolone was close behind with 24.

Lexi MacDonald shined tonight, collecting a team-high 22 digs. Payton Miozzi did good work, too, with 18 digs plus a pair of aces.

The Blue Streaks now are on the longest winning streak since 1996, a 10-game jaunt for JCU. The Blue Streaks are now two wins away from the longest string of victories since the legendary 1993 Blue Streaks won 21 in a row en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance and OAC Championship. With a win, JCU would match the team's best start since a 15-3 opening in 2019.

On Saturday, the Blue Streaks will host Wilmington in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 1 pm, celebrating Senior Day for Cindy Woo
