Foht's Two Quick Goals and Moher's First Career Shutout Earn Win for Men's Soccer

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- What better way to earn the first home win of the season than under the Saturday night lights?

The John Carroll Men's Soccer team grinded out a gritty 2-0 win against the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops on Saturday, September 17 thanks to two goals scored by sophomore Jack Foht

"We definitely needed this win," said Foht. "We knew we needed to get the fire started with a win. It feels great."

The game got off to a slow offensive start as both teams' defenses held scoring stagnant throughout the start of the first half.

As the clock winded down through the first 45 minutes, it looked like the match would remain scoreless going into the locker room at halftime, but the Blue & Gold had other plans.

Foht stole the ball from the Battling Bishops, dribbled to the 15 yard line and found the lower left corner of the goal wide open to give the Blue Streaks the lead with about 90 seconds left in the half, but the scoring did not stop there.

Setting up for a corner kick with 50 seconds left, John Carroll sent Kyle Boehem to the flag to send the ball in, where he connected with Foht's head for his second goal of the game in just under a minute.

The teams parted for halftime as all of the momentum swung in favor of the Blue Streaks.

Coming back out for the second half, Ohio Wesleyan kicked up their intensity as they had six shot attempts on goal, compared to zero in the first half, but Brenden Moher held strong in the net.

"This win feels great, especially after a great week of practice leading up to this game," said Moher. "It was a great team performance, I couldn't have done it without these guys around me. It's great to have the older guys back there, and obviously Steve, to learn from the, and how to handle certain situations. I feel more comfortable in big moments with them around me."

The Batting Bishops, led by legendary coach Jay Martin, looked to fight back late. The visitors put pressure on JCU, but Moher and the defense remained steadfast.

John Carroll outshot Ohio Wesleyan in shots, 12-6, as they added a win at home to their record book. The Blue Streaks now stand at 3-2-1 on the year.

"It was a great night," continued Foht. "We are coming off of two losses at home, but we knew we needed a win tonight and we felt great out there."

The Blue Streaks are back in action on Wednesday, September 21 at 7:30 p.m. as they travel to Denison University and continue their non-conference stretch of games.
