Men's Lacrosse Bounces Back with Stellar Road Win at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- Bouncing back from a heartbreaking loss on Wednesday, the John Carroll Men's Lacrosse team defeated the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies 18-5 on the road as they prepare to come back to University Heights for their final Ohio Athletic Conference matchup of the regular season.

This Saturday afternoon game was a reset for the Blue & Gold offense, as nine Blue Streaks recorded at least one goal in the game.

It took almost no time at all for the offense to get rolling, as John Carroll scored with just under two minutes into game play when Brendan Whitty finalized his first goal of the day off an assist by Morgan Morrell.

Four more unanswered goals by the visiting team was enough to push the Blue and Gold up 5-0 by the end of the first quarter.

The Blue Streaks kept the goals coming with another score at the beginning of the second quarter, but Muskingum retaliated with a goal of their own.

A back and forth scoring possession by each team late in the second quarter brought John Carroll's lead back to five, but the offense regained their stride, as JCU finished the first half ahead 9-2.

The Blue Streaks doubled their score in the second half as they finished nine more goals in the next two quarters, only allowing the Muskies to capitalize on three offensive possessions.

Matt Berdysiak led the Blue Streaks with five goals. Jared Gorenflo contributed three goals of his own. After scoring the first goal of the game, Whitty totaled four assists as he finished the game with five points.

Three goalkeepers played for John Carroll, as Jon Gaglio, Johnny Wilson III, and Jeremy Urban combined for nine saves off of only 14 shots on goal.

The Blue and Gold are back in action on Wednesday, April 27 as they host Ohio Athletic Conference rivals the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders at 7 p.m.
